The news repeated in my head. We used to live here? "This is the place where we lived? Are you telling me we were raised in this kind of environment?" I asked, slowly digesting the architecture that surrounded me.
A little child smiled and waved at me before being pulled by his frustrated mother. She glared at me, scowling as she turned around and walked off, her child in her arms. Geez what attitude.
"C'mon, get out. We don't have all day, nobody likes us here" she informed as she dragged herself out of the car. I did the same, looking at the car with slight admiration. the nice grey tint of this small Suzuki seemed to make the car even better.
Summer treaded through the dark ground and branches littered throughout the uneven terrain. I followed behind her slightly struggling. This place seems like a hellhole to live in. "You know, the past couple of hours you seemed to be able to know what you were doing. I mean, you handled the situation quite well, I think we're getting the old you back" she smirked putting her arm around me.
I don't want to be the old me. "I don't really know if its a good thing. I mean, how long are going to be able to survive? I mean I don't want to be chased down by the police. They'll catch us inevitably." I sighed, supporting her body which slumped on me.
"Look at me, we are doing just fine. I kind of agree with you though, maybe we should slow down and start investing in new opportunities." We shared a look, her eyes looked well tended. I guess she never had trouble with sleep. She gave me a slight peck of the cheek.
"Sometimes you can be so amazing. I'm glad the younger me met you." I said, smiling at her. She blushed and all I could do was laugh. The red tint in her cheeks were adorable.
"Me too. I'm kinda creeped out though. Everything is so dark and I'm scared that something might jump out at us." I knew that she may have experienced it before. I'll protect you Summer.
We continued walking for another 5 minutes before she stopped to a halt. "What's wron-" I was interrupted by a harsh 'shh'. "Can you hear that?" She asked, putting her finger and signing towards a stop. "Crap, dogs." The fear in her voice made me shiver. It's time for me to protect her.
A large pit bull launched itself at Summer. My reflexes told me to kick it as hard as possible. I did just that, my foot stamping through its' intimidating face. CRACK! The dogs head snapped. I'm not the kind to care for the deaths of such mutts. My attitude towards these pit bulls was far from love or pity.
The sound of branches cracked as three men pulled themselves out of the shadow as the light loomed upon their faces. They looked generic, similar even. One with a beanie and beady eyes, the other had long her with the same eyes. The third one had a cap on, he sneered as I directed Summer to hide.
"We want to kill you. Then take that pretty girl away too. We always get what we want. Always" they each finished their sentences for each other I launched my fist in 'beanie's face and directly in the nose. He staggered as his partner retaliated. I dodged the punch and found a way to enclose another fist in his stomach. Another crack was enthralled, I think I may have broken his ribs.
He put his hand on his ribs in pain as he bent over, I kneed his face. Before I knew it I had taken a blow from the third guy. He smiled, adjusting his hair. Damn, it hurt. I ignored the pain and tackled him through the wooden planks of wood. I tackled him to the ground lading 4 blows on his face.
The other two were running at Summer. Crap! The third guy was obviously unconscious so I left his body on the ground and sprinted towards the other two. I tackled the second man from behind , lifting him up high and then bringing him down on his face. His neck snapped. 'Beanie' kicked me from behind and brought out a knife. Two down, one to go.
He slashed his knife and I leaned back dodging the knife in the process. He jabbed me in the face then attempted to stab me. I grabbed his armed hand away from my body and landed a hook punch, then another and another. He continued staggering.
Then my mind processed everything. My plan and how to finish him off. 'Three punches to the rib, cracking two ribs. Kick knife out of hand, and give a snap kick to the face before grabbing him and finishing him off'. I did what I planned. This man is going to have one hell of a hospital bill. He fell to the ground and accepting his defeat.
I ran back to Summer to see a pleasant smile on her face. "What would I do without you?" She asked rhetorically, I just smiled as I tried to inhale as much air as I can. I was puffing.
"Relax, we're two houses away." She informed. "To where?" I replied, slightly baffled by why she was so happy. "To my sisters' house."
