The rest of the day was horrible. My chore was to clean out the stables. I was almost done when I heard a sound behind me. I quickly snap around and end up threatening Sam with the handle of my shovel. She threw her hands up and started laughing. I realized what I was doing and dropped my shovel.
"Someone's on edge" Sam laughed. I nervously laughed it off."You look like crap. And you smell like it too." Sam told me.
"Really? I didn't notice." I say sarcastically.
"Rough day?" Sam asked me
"Yah you could say that."
"How about a walk in the forest after you get all cleaned up."
"Umm sure. Why not." I look down at my dirty shoes.
"What's wrong?"
"Oh. It's nothing. Just trying to get used to all of this you know." The truth is that I couldn't get my nightmare out of my head. Was that really going to happen to josh? I have to find out.
"I get it. Now you should clean up. The Aphrodite cabin usually showers soon. You know what that means." I snap out of my daze.
"What? No."
"No hot water. Now go." Sam laughed as she pushed me towards the showers.
After I was all cleaned up I was heading back to the Hermes cabin. All I could think about was that dream. I was deep in thought when I bumped into josh. I looked up at him with a surprised look.
"What? Do I have something on my face?"
"Oh. No no you're fine." I stutter. There was something on his face. Paint.
"Were you painting?" I ask.
"So there is something on my face." Josh laughed.
"I didn't know you could paint."
"Well you don't know a lot of things. We just met." Josh smiled.
"Well I gotta get going. Do you want me to Save you a seat next to me by the campfire?"
"Uhh yeah Sure." Oh come on it's the best I could do.
I met Sam at the edge of the woods. I was dressed in ripped jeans with my camp shirt tucked in. Sam wore her usual. Except she had two swords.
"What are those for?" I ask walking up to her. Sam looked at me and smirked,
"Emergencies. Let's go." Emergencies? What!
"Hey Sam, whats in the forest that you would need a sword?" I say a little panicked. Sam looked back with a straight face.
"Monsters." She turned back and kept walking.
My mind was racing with thoughts as we walked. We went on for a while until we got to a clearing. Sam looked around and muttered
"Perfect." Quietly to herself. She tossed me a sword. Not the safest thing to do but I didn't question it."You stay here while I go find something. That's for emergencies. Don't be afraid to use it." Sam ran back into the forest. I sat down on a nearby rock studying the sword.
I heard something running in the forest. I stand up, sword in hand and ready to fight. I slowly walk to the sound.
Josh burst out of the trees exhausted.
"It's... a... trap..." Josh panted.
"Need... to... leave..." he grabbed my arm just as we were surrounded by giant scorpions.
The last thing I heard was Josh yelling my name. Then it was all gone.
