"Mom? what's going on?"

"Please dear, go ahead down there. Your father and I will follow shortly." Her mother forced a smile, her eyes held a hint of apprehension.

The ashen-haired girl grabbed her hand, "Promise?"

A second of silence. A moment of hesitation. A lifetime of regret.

"I promise." her mom assured, her voice shaking. She hesitated before closing the trap door, her hand reaching out to hold her daughter's cheek.

"Be brave. Always." The older woman said, tears filled her eyes then and the teenager understood dread filling her stomach.

"Mom, please don't go." she scrambled to crawl out, her nails clutching her mother's arm.

"Please, I'm begging you." She was panicking.

Her mother wrenched her hand away from her arm, the pain did nothing to numb the guilt she felt what she waa about to do. She shoved her daughter back and the girl hissed in pain at the impact of the cold hard ground. Before her daughter could recover and try to climb back up, the older woman shut the trap door and hurriedly locked it.

"MOM!!" The scream of her daughter tore her heart and she covered her mouth to keep from making a noise.

"Be quite, my love." the mother whispered shakily.

"Always remember that we love you so much, and promise me you won't make a sound." Her mother sobbed and bit her palm to stop the sound.

A bang then heard, and they both knew the devil had gotten past their front door. The mother hurriedly covered the trapdoor with a rug and with one last longing look she ran, but before she could come out of the room she saw her husband clutching his hand on his side, blood coming out of his stomach.

She helped her husband and smiled weakly, "I love you." she said as they heard heavy footsteps coming towards their direction.

"Mommy!" They heard their daughter and walked towards the rug.

"Shhhhhh pumpkin, daddy's here." her father cooed tears running down his face.

"They must not find you, please be quite." her dad then cough blood. His wife looked at him tears running down her face too.

"You will always be our treasure, our little captain, I love you and your mom always." With one last word, and with one last glance at his wife, they heard the door opened. The couple hugged each other as they cry, leaving their greatest treasure.

The sound of gun firing could only be heard and their painful screams, the ashen-haired girl could only sobbed and cover her mouth with her palm to stop the sound.

That night Watanabe You, knew that her parents are never coming back.
