Chapter 6

-Spiros' POV-

I pulled up in the hospital parking lot and reversed into a free space before turning off my car and stepping out into the car park. Locking my car I thought back to my sweet little Kenji, he had agreed to be my mate and I couldn't be happier my lion grumbling in agreement. Shaking my head to get myself focused on the job I followed Charlie's scent to the room we were supposed to be guarding.

"Hey Spiros the boy just got out of surgery and the Mayor said he'll come to pick him up after he has finished all of his business meetings" Charlie Spoke as I took my position outside of the door.

"Evening Charlie, any news from your sister about Kenji's case," I asked as I straightened my back when a doctor walked by. 

"My sister arrested the lads' father and he's being questioned" Charlie replied with a small smile. 

"That's good, do you think they'll charge him" I questioned rubbing my chin in thought. 

"I hope they do, a man who beats a kid biological or not deserves to be put away for a very long time" Charlie growled almost anomalistically even though he was human. 

"Thanks for helping with this," I told him offering him a small smile.

 "Your welcome, but in exchange treat him right" Charlie replied with a knowing smile.

"I never intended to get involved at first I just wanted to help him, but as we spent time together I realised I didn't want to let anyone else come to love him" I sighed thinking back to earlier when he had agreed to be my mate. 

"Shifters sure do fall in love fast my friend" Charlie chuckled giving me a cheeky grin.

I looked at him with my mouth hanging open as I realised my best friend had just outed my biggest secret like he was discussing the weather. How long had he known? Though my lion seemed amused by the turn in the conversation.

"When did you know" I questioned raising my eyebrows in curiosity.

"Oh please Spiros, you don't hide it well and it is well known around here. Besides you aren't that careful when covering your trail in animal form. Someone tracked the pawprints until they turned into feet and your cabin was the final destination, Not to mention all of the territorial sounds in the forest" Charlie explained mischievously and I was happy he wasn't acting any different around me.

"Your the best, best friend I could ever ask for. You know that" I spoke as I realised he and the townspeople had accepted me and hadn't come after me with torches and pitchforks. 

"I know I am. And it's no big deal shifters are starting to integrate themselves into human society as people are less judgemental nowadays" Charlie replied offering me a smirk.

"I had no idea, pride life is pretty well removed from human society," I said trying to keep a steady flow of conversation.

"Pride? We know that you are a shifter but what kind" Charlie asked his eyes shining with curiosity. 

"I'm a lion and my little Kenji is a tiger. We are quite rare too as we both display a white pigment" I revealed cautiously. 

"That's amazing next time I'm over I want to see you in your lion form" Charlie concluded. 

Nodding my head In agreement our quite conversation continued for two hours until the mayor arrived to pick up his son. The town's mayor nodded in greeting as some of his security detail secured the hospital. When they were sure the hospital was free of threats they allowed the mayor into the room his son was currently recovering in. 

"What have you gotten into now boy" The mayor sighed rubbing his hand through his hair in exhaustion. 

I felt for the man, not only did he had a troublemaking son both his daughters often used his influence to get what the wanted. I stepped backwards as the boy was wheeled out on a stretcher and put into the mayor's limo. Standing outside of the hospital it was cold as the autumn air swirled around me. The mayor then turned to us with a tired smile before getting into the limo himself.

"Good work today, Spiros, Charlie tomorrow there is a party being hosted in one of the bars in town and you two have been assigned to be security inside the venue as well as the regular bouncers" Evan spoke before he got into the limo with the mayor being his personal guard must be tough. 

I yawed after they pulled away and stretched myself groaning slight pain as my back popped. Looking over at charlie I saw he was no better as the bags under his eyes had become more pronounced. 

"See you tomorrow Spiros, I'm off to sleep" Charlie yawed before waving and walking to his car and getting in and driving off. 

I yawned again as tiredness started to slip into my vision as I walked to my car. Opening the door I sat in the drivers seat and turned on the ignition before driving off down the quiet roads of the empty streets and onto the dirt road of the forest. Pulling up to my cabin I turned off the ignition and hopped out of the car only to become awake immediately as Kenji's scent seeped out of my cabin and into the air around me. 

Walking up the deck I entered the cabin and locked the door before following Kenji's scent to my bedroom where he was out cold in his tiger form. The job had taken a little bit longer than I had expected and my little kitten probably needed more rest as his injuries fully healed. Kicking my suit of I felt refreshed as the warmth of the cabin enveloped me.  Shifting into my lion form I hopped on to the bed and snuggled myself against Kenji purring when he cuddled closer to me as he started purring too. Licking over his head I pulled him closer to me before laying my head down and letting the darkness consume me. A lion could get used to this.
