-Kenji's POV-
I paced the room nervously as we waited for the midwife to help Jade through her labour. I may seem calm on the outside but on the inside, I was nervous and scared as hell. Looking over at my mate as he held Jade's hand as she breathed through the pain. Shaking my head I walked over to the other side of Jade and took her other hand. We had been here four hours being checked on periodically the midwife saying we wouldn't need to worry until Jade's pain became intense.
"Are you guys excited?" Jade asked as she moaned in pain.
"Of course we are, we're just sorry that you have to go through all this pain," Spiros said his eyes flashing with concern.
"It's alright, I wanted to do this for you remember," Jade said breathing heavily smiling weekly as my mom wiped her brow with a cloth.
"Still I don't think I'd want to be in your shoes right now" I admitted thankful that I wasn't a woman and therefore couldn't get pregnant.
I could tell Jade was about to reply before she let out a scream. I winced as the scream hurt my sensitive ears. Spiros didn't seem to be doing much better with the scream either as he shook his head.
"Ah, I see that she is in the middle of her labour" The midwife spoke as she entered the room and walked straight over to us.
"Is that why I feel like my stomach is trying to rip itself apart" Jade whimpered gritting her teeth as her grin on my hand increased.
"That's one way to put it dear, by the way, my name is Abbey and I'll be your midwife today," Jade said through the pain that she was no undoubtedly feeling.
"Nice to meet you, Abbey, I'm Spiros and this is my mate Kenji you will be delivering our cubs" Spiros spoke making it know to the midwife that we were shifters.
"Oh I've never delivered a shifter before, how many are in there," Abbey asked as she felt around Jade's pregnant belly.
"Three, two girls and a boy" I stated proudly my tiger huffing with excitement the closer Jade got to giving birth.
"That's nice, and in that case, I'll need another two midwives," Abbey said before she got up and left the room.
I was about to shout after her when Jade let out another scream but I didn't have to as Abbey came back with two other women. Who started to get ready blankets and other equipment.
"Are you alright Jade?" I asked as she squeezed my hand harder.
"I feel like I'm nearly ready to push" Jade shouted the sound coming out as more of a pained wail.
"You're doing great," My mom said as she helped to comfort a now delirious Jade.
"I think you're just about ready to push when you feel the pain again" Abbey spoke as she checked what I assumed was how dilated Jade was.
"Okay" Jade whimpered as tears gathered in her eyes.
"This is it kitten" Spiros spoke into my mind as Jade began pushing.
"I love you, Spiros," I said as I spotted the head of the first baby.
"I love you too Kenji" Spiros replied as Abbey pulled the first baby away from Jade.
I then watched as everything happened in slow motion. The first baby was a boy and he was soon followed by his two sisters. The midwives weighed and dressed them before they handed them to Spiros and me. I held one of our daughters in my arms while Spiros held our other daughter and our son.
"You still need to deliver the placenta and give the babies their first milk" Abbey spoke to jade as she shooed us away from our surrogate now that our babies were in our arms.
"Okay," Jade whispered exhausted.
Deciding to let my mom and the midwife handle everything else I followed my mate as he went to sit at the other side of the room. When we were sitting I finally had the time to look over our offspring. The two girls were nearly identical but the one in Spiros' arms had black strikes in her blonde hair. It was clear to me that one was a lion and the other a tiger. I then looked at our son I couldn't tell what he was he didn't seem to take after either of our animals. Then I remembered about hybrids, it seems our soon is a liger.
"Here son," My mom said taking our son from Spiros and handing us a bottle of milk each as I saw Jade pass out.
"Thank you," I said as I took one of the bottles and held it to the mouth of the baby I was holding.
"When we're done feeding them, you can take them home. I'll take Jade back to my house so she can recover. Her new term starts next week after all" My mom said as she fed our son the colostrum filled milk.
"Okay we have to get back to Pheonix and Remi any way," Spiros said concern entering his voice as he referred to the cheetah cubs.
"I'm sure they're fine, Edward and Dianna are there" I soothed knowing that my mate was particularly protective of our cheetah cubs.
"Do you have names for these three?" My mom asked gesturing between our newborns.
"Yeah we were thinking, Liona for this one" I gestured to our little lioness in my arms.
"And we were thinking Lumi for this one," Spiros said as he gestured down to the little Tigress in his arms.
"What about this little fellow," My mom asked gesturing to our son who was in her arms.
"We were thinking Keegan," Spiros said looking at me for confirmation so I nodded.
"Those are wonderful names boys, now why don't you get home to the other cubs you have waiting" Mom spoke as she handed Keegan back to Spiros.
Nodding we got up and walked towards our truck, we had installed car seats and the like earlier in the week. Once we had the cubs strapped in and were in the truck ourselves we were heading towards the cabin.
