Chapter 17

-Spiros' POV- 

I smiled at Kenji as he brushed his hair out, removing the knots and tangles. We were set to have lunch with Emma today and after our conversation yesterday we were looking forward to telling her we wanted to start a family. As his mom we wanted her to know first before we told anyone else. 

"Should I just get it cut, I'm kinda sick of having it long" Kenji sighed as he tied his hair into a low ponytail. 

"It's your decision Kenji what would you like to do," I replied as I walked over to him and placed a kiss on his forehead. 

"Can we go to the barbers on the way back from my moms?" Kenji asked as he tugged at his ponytail. 

"Sure we can" I answered smiling as he stood up in my arms and grabbed his jacket off the bed. 

"Alright let's get going, I don't want to keep mom waiting longer than necessary" Kenji shivered no doubt remembering when she had chewed us out for not being punctual. 

Chuckling I opened the door to our bedroom for him, watching as he stepped out before I followed behind him. Following behind him I got a nice view of his slender back and ass as he opened the front door.

"I can feel your eyes on me Spiros, your insatiable you know that" Kenji stated, turning his head and giving me a cheeky smirk. 

"Can you blame me, my sexy mate is right in front of me" I responded grinning as a blush rose onto his cheeks. 

"Spiros later, okay" Kenji whined as the blush reached his ears before he jogged around to the passenger seat of my car.

Following after him, my lion grumbled in amusement at the scent of his embarrassment. Opening the car I got into the driver's seat as Kenji got into the passenger seat. As the doors slammed we put our seatbelts on and I put the key in the ignition and we were on our way to Emma's house. Driving through the forest road away from the cabin I turned onto the urban road. My eyes adjusted to the contrast in light from the forest to the open road quickly.

"My mom's gonna be happy for us right," Kenji asked his voice taking on a worried tone.

"I'm sure she'll be supportive no matter what, she said she'd love you no matter what, remember" I reassured though I was worried at what she would think too. 

Pulling into Emma's driveway behind her car I turned off the ignition. Giving Kenji a reassuring smile as we got out of the car I waited until he came around to the driver's side before taking his hand. I then walked with his hand in mine as we walked to the door. Kenji squeezed my hand once before he knocked on the door. Dipping down I placed a reassuring kiss on his lips before Emma opened the door. 

"You Boy's are lucky, you were nearly late, dinners on the table come in, come in. " Emma spoke as she stepped aside to let us in. 

"Yes mom, its good to see you too" Kenji giggled as he let go of my hand to hug her. 

"And Spiros you're looking as handsome as ever" Emma stated as she gestured me into her arms. 

"Thank you for the compliment mom" I replied knowing that she wanted me to call her mom as I hugged her. 

"Now come on dinner's on the table" Emma ushered us in as she closed the door behind us. 

Chuckling softly as she herded us into the kitchen. Upon entering the kitchen the scents of several different foods hit my nose. Looking over the table there was spaghetti and garlic bread and breadsticks. Emma sure knew how to go all out when it came to making dinners. 

"Everything looks amazing mom, I can't wait to dig in," Kenji said as he let a purr slip through his lips. 

"Well what are you waiting for sit down" She gushed as she took her seat at the table. 

"Thank you for dinner mom, everything looks wonderful" I praised as I pulled Kenji's chair out for him before sitting down myself. 

"Your just the sweetest thing arent you hun" Emma beamed as she started to dig into her meal. 

At the start of the meal, the conversation was light and joyous as we discussed jobs and our commitments and our friends. Emma still worked in a primary school as a teacher and all her kids seemed to adore her. Kenji spoke of how his designs for characters were finally getting used in an upcoming game. And I spoke of how myself and Charlie still worked security whenever they needed us. We also got into a discussion about Melody and Gina and how having a family had not changed charlie. We also mentioned Dianna and Edward and Tim and Tam. 

"Your lives seem wonderfully enriched with all the people you care about" Emma stated after she had listened to us talk well after we had finished eating. 

"You seem okay too I mean hasn't the dean of the school you work at got his eyes on you," Kenji said as he wiggled his eyebrows suggestively. 

The blush that climbed Emma's cheeks was enough to tell me that she didn't dislike the dean's affections and I felt happy for her. She had chosen to give up on her previous marriage but I could tell that it had set her free. 

"There is something weighing on your minds isn't their boys" Emma observed as the conversation slowly came to a lull. 

"Yes there is we wanted you to know before anyone else, isn't that right Kenji" I replied smiling at my mate to show him we could do this. 

"Yes, we wanted to tell you that we want to have a family, be it by adoption or surrogacy" Kenji rushed out in a timid voice. 

"That's amazing boys, I know you will be wonderful parents" Emma spoke her voice filled with warmth and love as a smile broke out onto her face. 

"Thank you for your support mom, we have thought a lot about this and did our thorough research" I replied as Kenji seemed lost for words. 

"Are you gonna try surrogacy first, they can take your sperms and combine them to make a child that has all your DNA and not be related to the surrogate?" Emma asked having already researched the subject thoroughly. 

"That was what we were thinking, we are meeting two potential surrogates tomorrow" Kenji replied finally finding his voice as a wide grin appeared on his face. 

After the Ice was broken we discussed that we may also adopt if any of the orphanages in the surrounding area had a shifter child but for the time being we were going to try surrogacy. 

"It was nice seeing you too again, keep taking care of each other" Emma said later as we were about to leave pulling us into a final hug. 

Walking with Kenji to the car I watched his shoulders physically relax as he let out a breath. As we got into the car I sent him reassuring thoughts as I started the car and we drove away. 

"To the barbers then," I asked as I pulled onto one of the towns main streets.

"Yeah, Its about time I got my hair under control," Kenji said as I turned into a car park.

Today my kitten would get a new look and tomorrow we would be interviewing the carrier off of children. I purred in content never did I think my life would turn out this way but I'm glad I have my mate and he has me as we start our journey to parenthood together.
