Daren backed up so fast he slammed into a wall behind him and lost breath. He whipped out his two guns and fired as rapidly as he could. The creature limped, still making it's inhuman scream, then fell over and died. He fired at its corpse a few more times, then went over to the generator.

It looked like the other dead person here was trying to activate it when that thing happened to befall him.

He walked over to a lever. It had a downwards arrow that read 'Activate' next to it.. He pulled it down, and the generator sputtered to life. Lights came on, and he heard the power begin to flow through the base. It was up and running again.

Okay, now it was time to check out those labs and see what the hell he was dealing with here.

He rushed up the stairs and got back up to level one. He ran past the sign, and straight into the Biochemical Labs.

All the rooms were sealed airtight. In some of them he could see more of those horrid zombie-like creatures. He ran, turned a corner, and stopped.

Before him was the largest robot he had ever seen. It turned to look at him, and raised its arm-

"Shit!" he shouted, diving for cover. The arm unfolded into a minigun and fired at the spot he used to be at. The robot trod after him, moving slowly around the corner. Daren unslung his rifle and aimed it at it's leg joint. He fired.

The blast was harmlessly absorbed by armor. He'd have to be a little more accurate next shot as to actually hit the gears and motors.

Daren ran another corner, and stopped for just a second. There was a room with a scientist trapped in it. He looked alone, and from what Daren could tell, was watching his run from the robot.

He ran up to the door and banged on it. "Let me in! Let me in right now or I'll cut my way in!" He activated the Lasersword and tried to burn through the hard plastic... but nothing happened. Whatever these walls were made of, they were immune to lasers. Seeing as how a robot with a laser minigun was after him, that might not be such a bad thing.

"Let me the fuck in!"
The scientist looked around, then opened the door for Daren. He dove in, the door sliding shot behind him. The scientist, all dressed up in a white smock and with black sunglasses, looked at him.

Evenually he spoke. "Who are you? You aren't wearing any base specified uniforms. What are you doing here?"

"I'm uh, shit, who the hell...aw you probably won't recognize me anyways." He straightened up, popping his back as he did so. "Name's Daren. Some call me the Outlaw. I was... supposed to deliver a package here, but when I arrived in system all this fighting went down. Got caught up in the crossfire, and had to land."

"Suppose I believe you," the scientist said," what are you doing in this base? We can't help you repair your ship; we've been overrun by these mutant creatures."

"Yeah, tell me about it. Just what the hell are those things anyways; I already killed one of them."

"One isn't hardly enough. Well, I see no harm in telling you what they are, seeing as how we'll never make it out of here alive. A shipment of radiological materials was arriving today. When the fighting came it was busted and flooded one of the levels of this base, turning all the personnel into these... these things. Hmm!"

Daren slumped up against the wall, noticing for a second that the robot had stopped firing and was now waiting for them to open the door. "Okay, so what's with the robots?"

"Security countermeasure," he answered briskly," once we knew that the containment levels had been breached, they automatically booted up and began a thorough search and destroy contingent. They are of no threat to me as I am base personnel... but they must've detected that you weren't supposed to be here and shot at you. Don't worry, I can get us past the robot. I just need to reprogram it."
