"You know, I've never thought you'd ask me out." I laugh when Jake rolls his eyes, standing up so he can order our little dinner.

One half and hour after Bailee left, I received some messages from Jake complaining about his new roomie and how he needed to get out of there, so he decided it would be a good idea going to the nearer cafe and talk about life. My phone buzzes and I read the new message.

Jake

Giselle, you need to repeat to me what you want for dinner because I'm going to order you fish and chips.

And yeah, I know you hate it with passion.

Giselle

DON'T YOU DARE JAKE

I  want a large Frappuccino with Oreo and a sandwich. Don't fail me, bro.

I lock my phone and glance at Jake, noticing how much he's changed since I last saw him. His hair has grown longer and curlier, giving him an endearingly boyish look. He's wearing a black t-shirt that highlights his tanned, muscular arms and light brown shorts. It's impossible to deny how attractive he is, ,but there's nothing more to add because I can't see him in any other way.

"What's in that pretty head of yours?" Jake asks, carefully placing our dishes on the table.

"You have changed a bit, I guess"  I shrug, watching his confused expression.

"I hope it's for the better. I've been hitting the gym, and it would be a shame if you didn't notice," he says, flexing slightly. Believe me, I've noticed, but I don't want to inflate his ego any further.

"You look pretty good yourself", I admit and he smiles proudly. "So... what about your girlfriend?"  Why have I asked that in the first place?  From the look in Jake's face I know it's taken him by surprise. But it's too late to take it back.

"Well, as I've told you the last time we talked about this, it's getting a bit harder. She's studying in the north of England because she only could study the degree she wants there. But we will make it work, I know", Jake sighs, trying to stay optimistic. His girlfriend is lucky to have him. "Is there any lucky guy in your life?" he asks, teasingly.

"Well, there were a few potential candidates this summer, but nothing worked out," I confess, and he rubs his face, looking concerned.

"You aren't over him, are you?"

That thought has haunted me, but I've never been sure. I think about him less and less, but as Hannah once told me during one of our late-night ice cream binges, you never really know if you're over someone until you see them again and feel nothing. I'm scared because I don't know how I would react if I saw him again, but I know I wouldn't be indifferent.

My confidence has never been the best, and I'm sure any girl could see how handsome he is. While I'm here stuck in the past, he's probably moved on, having fun with other girls. I've tried to move on, but everyone around me knows I'm not good at it. I curse the day I fell in love with him; life would have been simpler otherwise.

"You've already put yourself out there. Anyway, do you know what he's been up to these last few months?" Jake asks, genuinely curious. The truth is, he blocked me and probably still hates me for what I did to him but yeah, it's okay. I'm definitely not going to say that to him.

"I don't know. He blocked me from his Instagram stories and hasn't posted any photos. But Blake has a secret girlfriend he won't talk about, and George has been helping his mom with some soccer team," I say, adding a little white lie, then take a sip of my Frappuccino. "You should try this, it's amazing."
