Chapter 3

Meeting the Party

El woke up the next morning by the sound of someone knocking on her door. She opened her eyes to see Joyce standing by her open door.

"Hey sweetie. Do you want breakfast?" Joyce asked watching El stretch trying to wake up.

"Sure." El grumbled. Joyce left the room heading back downstairs to finish making breakfast. El was left alone in her room to get ready for the day. She looked at the clock that read 9:32, she sighed and stared at the wall for a minute before telling herself that she needed to get up. She stood up, closed the door and got ready.

When she was done, Joyce yelled through the household that breakfast is ready and everyone needed to come to the table to eat. Once El got down to the dining room she saw all of her family already there. Hopper was reading a newspaper, commenting every once in a while about something that's going on in town. Joyce and Jonathan were busy filling up plates full of food. And Will was already at the table, eating his breakfast quietly. El got a plate from Joyce and sat down next to Will.

She looked at the food on her plate, there was scrambled eggs, bacon and toast. Not as good as eggos, but whatever, El thought. El ate her breakfast in silence, listening to her parents talk about the news. When her plate was empty, she stood up and went to help Joyce with the dishes.

"You don't need to help sweetie, Jonathan can help me clean up." Joyce said looking up from washing the dishes.

"No it's fine, Jonathan helped make breakfast so I can help clean up." El said smiling.

The two carried on the conversation until they were disrupted by a knock on the door and an overly enthusiastic Will springing up from his chair saying that he would get it. They continued with their conversation as Will made his way to the door knowing it was the party. He opened the door to find four faces he knew too well.

"Hey guys." Will said smiling brightly and stepping aside inviting his friends in. "Do you guys want to check out my room? It's all done." The party nodded their heads and followed Will upstairs to his bedroom.

"Looks nice." Lucas said nodding his head in approval.

"Yeah, yeah. Your house is nice and blah, blah, blah... but I'm going to ask what everyone else has been thinking since we got here. Where's El?" Max said getting noticeably excited, getting a laugh from Will.

"She's downstairs helping my mom with the dishes." Will said.

"I can't wait one more second, I'm going to go meet her." Max said already speed walking down the long hall being followed closely by the rest of the party. Everyone went down the stairs to the kitchen where they all stopped to get a look at the girl before them. She was skinny, not sickly skinny, but skinny. She had brown shoulder length hair that had a little bit of wave to it. She wore an oversized plaid long sleeve shirt and blue jeans.

"El!" Max said. El turned around so that everyone could see her face and her hazel eyes. Max walked forward enveloping El in a hug. It caught El off guard, so it took a second for her to hug the redhead back.

"It's so nice to finally meet you!" Max said pulling away to look at El who had a shy smile on her face.

"Give her some space, jeez." Mike said pulling her away from El.

"El, these are my friends Mike, Dustin, Lucas, and you already met Max." Will said pointing to everyone.

"Hey." The party said in unison.

"Hi." El whispered. The group fell into an uncomfortable silence not knowing what else to say.

"Well!" Will said clapping his hands getting everyone's attention. "You guys want to head to the movies, I would hate for us to be late."

"Sure! Are you coming with us, El?" Max asked.

El looked at Will for help and luckily he got the message.

"She is going to stay back and unpack the rest of her things, unless, you changed your mind."

El shook her head and watched as the party made their way to the door. When they closed the door she happily turned back to helping Joyce.

"She seems nice." Max said as the door closes behind her.

"She barely said one word." Lucas stated.

"Like I said guys, she's shy." Will reminded them.

"I bet it didn't help that Max jumped on her." Mike said glaring at Max.

"I didn't jump on her." Max said looking offended. "I hugged her. I was doing a nice gesture."

"A gesture that scared her."

"I did not scare her!"

"Yeah, well you didn't see the panic in her eyes when you hugged her, did you?"

"Shut up you-"

"Guys!" Will said cutting in before things could go from bad to worse. "Can't we just have some fun today without you two arguing."

"Fine." Mike and Max said still glaring at each other as they both get in the car to head to the movies.

Author's Note

Yeah! I finally got the first three chapters out, so that means that I can now start doing more of a schedule other than posting whenever I can. So my plan is to be posting on the weekends, what day to be exact? I don't know we'll see. So I will post this weekend even though I have already posted once this week, I don't want you guys to wait two weeks for the next chapter.

Quick question for you guys: do you want me to post a chapter with a song that I think will go with it? I am just wondering because I've seen other people do it and I wanted to know if you wanted me to do it.
