The party was off to a great start by the time Aaron and I made it. So great, in fact, that Aaron and I were stuck at the door guarded by two beefy frat boys that seemed more than pleased to be turning so many people away.

"Come on, we know Adam!" Aaron bargained.

The frat boy in the green polo shirt rolled his eyes, "You and every other freshman. Beat it."

"We really do, just call him."

"If you know him so well why don't you call him."

Aaron turned to me with narrowed eyes and hissed, "Skye."

My arms remained crossed over my chest as I huffed deeper into my fit. It was bad enough we could only hear about the party through Adam, but to now not be let in unless I called him? I refused to ride the coattails of Adam's popularity at this school. I would not be known as Adam Barker's lame little sister who follows him around.

"We don't need Adam. We can find another way in," I turned.

Channeling my best Marilyn Monroe, a high pitched and sultry "boys" squeaks out of my mouth. Palms and arms clasped tight to push my breasts up and batting my eyelashes at the frat boys. I feel absolutely ridiculous trying to be sexy like this and the feeling doesn't get much better when both guys promptly ignore me.

"Well that was pathetic," Aaron mumbled, dragging me off to the side yard of the frat where the muddy tire tracks of cars passed through the grass driveway. The waning light of the porch lamp barely reached us, giving Aaron a gentle glow to his harsh facial expression. "Would you just call your brother?"

"No."

"Why the hell not?"

"Because... Because we don't need him!"

"We clearly do."

I sighed. "Look, I can get by on my own. I don't need help from my big brother anymore."

"There's no shame in asking for help."

"There's a little shame."

"Suck it up."

"No," I pounded my foot into the ground like a toddler having a true tantrum. My right heel snagged on the tire track's mud and twisted. Faster than I could comprehend I'm catching my heel and falling forward. My hand anchored itself onto Aaron's lean arm to keep from teetering. Taking a few steady breaths I finally feel balanced enough to try to push free. Using all my might to yank my foot free and Aaron for leverage to get out of the dirt, to no avail. The heel was stuck and so were my freshly painted toes.

Just then a cursed blessing came barreling up to us in her five inch heels and perfectly wavey blonde hair. She'd done everything Chace told me not to. She had arrived late, wearing a leopard print mini dress that did wonders for her gravity defying boobs. She was the definition of too much for this dirty frat house and still she looked stunning. Like an Instagram model galloping toward us, her green eyes glowed in the dim light of the side yard with warmth.

"Hey, your Chace's friends, right?" Jackie asked, her pink painted lips forming a pearly white smile. The stellar party makeup making her look like a whole new person than the girl who sat beside me in class.

"You could say that," Aaron answered before I got the chance to tell her to bugger off. I got the feeling he was just as annoyed with me as I was with my foot stuck in the mud, if his lack of help was any indicator. Sure, he let me hang onto him, but he wasn't making an effort to tug me out of the ground. If I had turned Jackie away along with the possibility of getting in, he probably would've left me there.
