Just like everyone, I have certain smells that remind me of certain things.
Like the smell of chapstick remind me of my first kiss.
When my best friend and I fooled around and tried to taste the chapstick off of each others lips.Like the smell of the orange bottled rituals perfume reminds me of the first dates with my boyfriend. When I got so excited getting ready for a simple walk around town.
Like the smell of the greenish handsoap reminds me of the smell in my father's old apartment he used to live in when my parents were separated. When I was allowed to stay up way past my bedtime to watch a movie on the weekend.
Like the smell of Lucky Strike Cigarettes reminds me of the first time I ever tried a cigarette. When I hid in the bushes with my friend at age 13, feeling so cool on that warm summer day.
Like the smell of freshly mowed grass reminds me of my friends birthday party when I first got drunk. When I had the time of my life dancing around the fields with all my friends.
And I realise that I remember all the positive things in life.
I don't think about the horrible headache and all the times I threw up because of all the alcohol I drank at that birthday party when I smell the grass.
I dont remember the intense fear of getting caught and how I almost died coughing when smoking my first cigarette.
I dont remember how I was in a psychiatric hospital because I tried to kill myself during the time I was on dates with my boyfriend when smelling the perfume.
No, I remember the fun and the happiness I felt.
And that gives me hope.It gives me hope, that maybe one day the smell of vanilla shampoo will remind me of hot showers on cold winter days and long silky hair.
Yeah, maybe one day i won't remember all the hours I've wasted trying to wash your touch off of my body, when smelling vanilla.
