My hands move to the tiny lid before Naomi's long fingers stop me. To my surprise She shakes her head but cuts me off with her words,

"I'll do it" she insists.

I lend her the book before she takes out a handy knife out of her pocket and shakes it at me. Her eyes search for her selected knife as she slides one out.
It wasn't much of a sharp knife to hurt anyone badly enough to shed blood; but it was clearly enough to open the insect in a few seconds by her. Now I understand why she has the ability to intimate each one of her informants.

She gently took off the lid and reveals a necklace charm with a few pictures in it. She shoots me a knowing look and lends me the necklace with a picture while she observes the rest. Without wasting a second, I train my eyes on the necklace.

There was a miniature-dried flower under a clear and clean glass with something that looked like Cinnamon powder at the end -it surely wasn't earth, for sure-. These type of necklaces have lids.
And so, with a few taps the necklace snaps open; revealing a clock with a woman at the background of it. I notice a source of warmth as Naomi's Head comes closer to my shoulders to peek at my new discovery.

"That's the same woman we saw on the book, Veronica Thompson. She's Thompson's only daughter" she remarked as we both stared at the background.

"Was she involved?" I simply ask. She slightly shakes her head.

"Veronica was the least involved suspect. I don't know where she is but she somehow left with her family to the capital for a better life after Travis's death" she adds.

Thompson had only his daughter left, no wonder he hadn't put up Travis's picture; he wanted to cherish his only child, that apparently selfishly left her hurt father for a 'New Life' of hers.

"She has kids?" The question suddenly pops up.

"Of course, she's older than her brother and she married an officer, she had a son when she left but I don't know about the kids she may have after her new life" she shrugs.

"She doesn't have any important role in this shit, lets check the pictures" I shake my head.

The picture was the same one as before; a disfigured image of a woman with only her blonde hair to be seen. She may be Diana.

"Diana is around our age, but this picture is too old for her to be in it" I state.

"Maybe her mom?" I look at a frowning Naomi.

"Her mom? As in Fiona Lawson?" She asks.

"Lawson!" I exclaim. "She was the mentioned woman in Thompson's notebook!" I continue.

"Is she a pretty chick?" I blurt. I can't believe I used the word 'Chick' in my words. Naomi notices the same and shyly smiles before answering, "Yeah, almost everyone falls for her" she states.

"Apparently, not everyone falls for her" I mutter. "What did she do? Any wrongs?" I tap my fingers at her image.

"She has a daughter that no one knows about her whereabouts. But she is suspicious although she doesn't appear in public anymore after the 17th May incident. She lives a secluded life but one of my informants claim they saw her with a 'X' burned on her forehead" she informs.

"Naomi, how can you fucking hide these from me?" I impatiently blow my short curls out of my face.

"There are many things you don't know yet, like Bella always goes to the bathroom when she's lonely so people wouldn't think she's some snobby girl that has no friends" she shrugs.

What the fuck? She already is a snobby girl without even trying.

"That doesn't matter now, Naomi. What matters is that Thompson is suffering from something he kept a secret for ages!" I complain. "...And I need your help with it" I sigh.

"The entries on your lap are the answers" she gestures to the book. "Naomi, these are just what Thompson felt, he doesn't talk about anything other than demons with-" my words were cut off with a wild wind spreading in the area and recklessly turning the pages until we reach the last one.

My eyes hit a silver box with pearls decorating it. Without any hesitation I move the lock until it opens. Even with its small door it still creaked when I opened it and revealed two old and tiny tapes.

Naomi violently grabs the book before her fingers touch the page before the box; searching for a description about the box.

"He didn't say anything about it" she adds. "Geez, why does Thompson write so much of Shakespeare's poems?" She held an annoyed expression.

"So random people wouldn't understand everything and blow it up for him" I roll my eyes, battling between who takes the book. Naomi finally lets go and as soon as I take the book and read the last page,

December 17th

Veronica left. She and my grandson left.
The memory of her happily chirping to her husband for her new life echoes in my mind.
The moment she sat on the car as she drove only to never come back was the nightmare I ignored and assumed would never happen.
But it did
My old house in the seventh street is destroyed,
The only home was Trevor's.
Until I lost him too.
Voices tend to be dead, but never erased.
I still remember his passionate smile when he first wanted to know about the murder case,
He was so sure he'd finish it well.
He didn't know, I didn't know, that he would die too.
Today was the day I finally knew the true meaning of loneliness,
Because when you lose a child and the other leaves in one day in front of your eyes,
You have no choice but to accept it as it is.
I'm dying.
I'm dying.
I'm dying.
I'm dying.

It was unexpectedly short. I thought I'd see a long letter of Thompson's sadnesses but he only spoke of Veronica.
