═════"What?" I practically gasp.
"No! It's not what you think!" She waves her long hands at my face, "I'm her foster mother!" She corrects.
"How?...Her real parents?" I stutter.
"They were killed" she tucks a perfectly-ironed hair behind her ear.
"You see, Naomi was about eight months old when she was found" she explains when a deep scowl crosses my brows.
"She was found?" I ask, my face shocked but frowning.
She blinks rapidly as her eyes get rosy from red. She immediately picks at her fingers skin nervously as she bites down her lip. Now I understand why Naomi never shows obvious gestures like she does; she's wise enough to notice this isn't a good thing.
"...Yes" She takes a deep breath, "Naomi's parents were both murdered officers of the Seventeen May incident" she continues,
"Three days before my brother, Travis died" tiny beads of tears roll down her cheeks.
"He went to inspect an area; until he saw a wrecked police car with a crying noises escaping it" her voice is now shaking with sobs, "He...he went to check it, then he saw Naomi wrapped up in a white blanket with her face crimson from tears. Alongside her was a black bag filled with all her documents and birth certificate, and her clothes" she adds, "After looking at the information she had, they found out her parents were working here" she stops her explaining when Naomi stirs in her sleep from her constant crying.
"Noa, it's me" her voice turned soft as her bag slipped off her shoulders.
Tears continue to roll down by her expression didn't change nor she moved an inch. Her soft-dark eyes stare into Naomi's closed ones.
"Who were her parents?" I simply ask.
"Her father was Chinese, and her mother lived here" she answers.
I never expected anything complex from a rude, suspicious girl that popped up in front of me one evening in the cafeteria. How could she pretend that none of this shit was also related to her life; something that was ruined by 'X'.
"They were planning to move to China after there case finishes so they could protect her from the troubles" she adds after an intense silence.
"Travis told me that her parents may have known they wouldn't come back alive, so they left the bag full of her useful documents so someone... could protect her" she takes a deep breath.
"Which you did it" I continue. She nods.
"I even wanted to take her...her foster cousins in" she elaborates.
"Travis told me to take care of them since he couldn't make time for them and his wife was in custody" she pitifully shakes her head.
"So Naomi is Thompson's illegitimate granddaughter?" I ask, knowing the answer. She nods.
"I was willing to take Tyler and Tiffany in but there mother disagreed after she was discharged" she continues.
"Tyler? And Tiffany?" I'm officially mortified. "Travis's children were Tyler And Tiffany?" I ask.
"Yeah, of course. What did you think?" She shrugs.
"I...I just didn't know" I disappointedly press my lips in a tight line.
"There were many things we should've known, but others didn't want us to" she gently squeezes my hands.
"Tyler was only five years old at the time when both of his parents couldn't be there for him and his sister, so I took care of him alongside Naomi and a ten days-old Tiffany" she states, "But there mother, who was in a terrible mental situation, insisted on taking care of them",
"That's why after this whole mess I took Naomi, Henry and my husband, then left this city" her chest raises shallowly.
"But I'm glad Naomi had Henry" she weakly smiles, "He's my son" she answers my exploding thoughts of who could Henry be.
"Did you name her Naomi?" I ask our of the blue. She sweetly chuckles.
"No, I use to call her Noa until she was frustrated and demanded me to call her by...the name her parents selected for her" she smiles.
"She must've been devastated to figure about her past" I look at Naomi.
"She wasn't" she corrects. "She found out everything thanks to her curiosity" she giggles.
"After she admitted that she knew her past, she insisted on moving back to this city to sort herself out, that's why she lived with my husbands parents', her paternal grandparents" she scratches her thin arm.
If Travis was murdered earlier, Naomi would've died from hunger or tuned out like Tiffany. It's shameful that Travis saved everyone but himself, and no one cared when he died.
Now it explains why Naomi was so strange about Travis and Thompson. Who knew Thompson also had a illegitimate granddaughter."Does Thompson know her?" I gesture to Naomi.
"I... Don't know" she shakes her head, "People rumored dad suffered from Alzheimer's" she adds.
"Weren't you her daughter?" I press.
"I am, but he told me to move away while Travis's wife changed there last names to Lee" she explains.
My phone cuts our conversation when it rings. It revealed an anonymous number. Who the hell would call me after everything is blown?
"Hello?" I answer the call.
"Go downstairs, Alice. Thompson hanged himself" Tyler's harsh voice booms in.
