This short story was written when I was in middle school. It's still pretty rough around the edges but I thought I'd post it and see if I can get some feedback. Hope you guys enjoy!!

Chapter 1

“Oh. My. Gosh!” My best friend Jessica Anderson said. “He is so hot!” She was talking about the boy who just moved in next door to me. We were just casually taking a walk down the road when we just happened to be looking over at his house and just happened to see him there, real cheesy, right?

Anyway, she was right.  He was very good looking.  He had dark brown hair and looked athletic.  I couldn’t see his eye color from where I was though (I have a thing about eyes). But still, he was probably way out of my league.  My name is Katie Rivera but my mom calls me her ‘Brown Eyed Beauty’.  Too bad all that is true from that is that I’m brown eyed.  I’m just your average girl, nothing much to look at.  I have brown curly hair, chocolate brown eyes, semi-athletic build and shy.  Like I said I’m just your average girl.

My friend Jessica Anderson is the one with all the looks.  She has straight beautiful long blonde hair, blue eyes, athletic and very outgoing.  She’s also the one that has had the most boyfriends.  I’ve only had a handful.

Well, back to the guy.  As we were walking I was thinking about school and how nervous he must be to start the year off as being the new kid (today is Saturday and we don’t start until the Monday after this next one).

“I wonder what grade he’s going into.” I said aloud.

“I have no idea.” said Jessica.  “But I hope he’s in ours or older! Wouldn’t you like an older guy?”

“Hey, maybe we’ll have some classes with him!” I said, totally ignoring the part about an older guy.

“We can only hope.”

“Knowing you, Jessica, you’ll be hoping a lot!”

“Hey! What’s up with the teasing?”

“What? It’s not like I’m lying or anything, is it?”

“No, but still….you wanna know what I was just thinking?”

“Um, no, I don’t think I do.” I said playfully.

“Katie, I think you and that guy would make a really cute couple.”

“Yeah, helloooo!? Earth to Jessica! We don’t even know him and you’re already trying to hook me up with him!?”

“Whoa, slow down horsy!! I never said I was gonna ‘hook you up’, although that is a good idea.”

I just fixed my meanest stare on her hoping she would stop bugging me.

“Oh, don’t give me that look. I was only kidding.”

I rolled my eyes at her; she obviously just did not get it.

“You know, you don’t talk with attitude but you sure do show it.”

“Sorry.” I said.

“Don’t be.”
