CHAPTER TEN,
narrative ( saturday )

"hey" he gently spoke, almost forcing a small smile onto his pale face. his hazel eyes were swollen and glossed over making it almost impossible to read his emotions.

zara noticed the redness on his cheek and slight bruising around his eye and neck but the shadow casted by his hood was too dark, making it hard to tell if it was anything serious or not. what she was more so focused on was why he was at her house. it seemed as if he was always showing up unexpectedly.

the two had barely talked during the two week break they had which zara surprisingly found refreshing. she enjoyed just being able to focus on herself for a while. she felt healthy, happy, and stress free. on the other hand vinnie hardly changed. he continued to respond to girls comments flirtatiously, and hint small signs of interest, even if it wasn't true. but he did do the one thing zara asked of him which was to think things over and get his priorities straight. hence why he was here.

he took the silence he was receiving from the girl as a sign to continue, "um... can i come in?" zara shook out of her small trance as she realized he was still standing in the pouring rain, "oh yeah yeah of course... sorry". she moved to the side so he could walk in.

vinnie kicked his shoes off by the door before pulling his hoodie off over his head. zara locked the door before turning her attention back to the russian boy. ( i think hes russian idk- )

her plump pink lips fell a gap as she realized the "slight" bruising she recognized outside wasn't slight at all. around his left eye was all sorts of shades of purple and blue, and his bottom lip was busted. there were a few other minor injuries around his face but those didn't worry zara all that much.

"what happened to you..." she asked him concerned. vinnie sighed and looked away as he tried to hold in his tears. tears weren't apart of his brand.

she didn't like seeing him in this condition. no matter how much he hurted her she would always still have a strong sense of sympathy and love towards him. "come on" she said softly as she took his hand, bringing him towards the nearest bathroom.

vinnie felt a bit more at ease feeling her gentle touch. he would say it 100 times but it didn't mean any less to him. he truly did miss her a lot. these last two weeks were extremely difficult for him even if it didn't seem that way on the internet. he was always just really good at holding up a front.

zara led him to sit on the edge of the bathtub in the guest bathroom downstairs before opening up the cupboard. vinnie was very familiar with this bathroom, so familiar it soon became nicknamed 'vinnies fight room' to the pair.

every time vincent would get into a fight zara brought him to this bathroom to fix him up, only because this was where her mom left all the nursing material. she pulled the alcohol, antibacterial cream, bandages, and band aids out and set them onto the counter as vinnies eyes burned into her back.

"do you want a dry change of clothes?" she asked while closing the cabinet. vinnie shrugged when she turned around, leading her to signal him to undress.

zara left the room as he did so to find an outfit he had possibly left here during one of their sleepovers. she soon came back downstairs with a t-shirt and a pair of gray sweats. "here" she said as she threw the pieces at him. she then picked up his wet clothes to put into the drier.

"thanks" vinnie mumbled as she turned to the door. she nodded and left for the laundry room. in the meantime vinnie was trying his best to gather his thoughts. he didn't only come to her house because it was the first place he thought of and the only place he memorized the directions to, but also because he was ready to explain himself. fully.

he let out a breath before zara walked back into the bathroom, automatically picking up the alcohol to clean his bruises and wounds.

"do you want to explain what's going on now?" she asked as she held his head in her hand while wiping clean the small cuts around his eye.

he winced in pain before responding, "they kicked me out again"

zara moved the wet rag which was drenched with alcohol off of vinnies face. "what did you do this time" she asked with a slight chuckle.

she didn't think it was anything serious being that vinnie was always getting in trouble with his parents leading them to "kick him out". it never lasted more than a night or two and the next morning his mom would be calling for her baby boy to come back home.

vinnie sighed as he put his head in his hands. he almost didn't have the heart to tell her the truth, but he knew it would be inhuman and almost impossible, due to his current circumstances, to hold out any longer.

vinnie looked up into her eyes leading zara to worry. he had a dead look on this face, but zara could easily read behind his eyes and tell that he was sad. emotionally lost and drained even.

she placed her hand on his shoulder letting him know he could be 100% honest and truthful with her. she was here to listen.

"i told them about you" he mumbled
