"We can't choose where we come from, but we can choose where we go from there."

-The Perks of Being a Wallflower

-Adelaide-

Adelaide had always been patient, as patient as possible at least. But the wait was bothering her much more than it should have. She sat in the windowsill of the airport, looking down at the airplane she should have boarded over twenty minutes ago. She had all the time in the world for a hold up, but that didn't mean she wanted one.

She leaned her back against the side of the window, throwing one leg over the side and bending the other. She sat with her earphones in her ears, her arm slung over her knee. The airport was bustling with people and all of the noise was giving Adelaide a headache. She pressed the volume button on the side of her phone to tune everything out, but it only seemed to make it worse, so she took her earbuds out of her ears and unplugged them from her phone instead. Her phone screen lit up as she did, and she couldn't help but take notice of all the notifications that showed up.

The notifications continued. Texts from her Mom, her brother, and her dad. Adelaide didn't mind as much about those. It wasn't entirely their fault that she was leaving. It was the ones from him that made her flinch and roll her eyes.

She pressed the power button on her phone, turning it completely off. She knew ignoring them wouldn't really help the problem. The least she could do was text her parents to ease their worry at least a tiny bit. But she could be out of this mess if it weren't for them, and the thought only angered her more.

She sat in silence- as silent as possible with the airport filled with people around her- for what seemed like forever. She observed everything, taking notice of the small details that no one else would ever think to care about. Like how the little girl who was running around had pigtails in with two different colored hairbands. Or how the lady who was working behind the desk was wearing a small metal name tag, and it sat crooked on her shirt. She didn't know why she noticed these things, but she did.

She looked back down to the plane and kept looking at it, getting more and more frustrated as time passed. She didn't look up until she noticed a guy walking toward her- well, toward the window. He didn't seem to notice her at all. He looked up at sky, his hands in his pockets. Both continued to look out the window, not minding nor seeming to care about the others presence.

Adelaide waited for what seemed like years before the intercom sounded above her. She groaned at the announcement: the flight was delayed until the next morning due to problems with the plane. She had no where to go and nothing to do until then.

Adelaide was bored from the start. She had thought that reading would get her mind off of everything, but the airport was too loud and she could hardly pay attention to the book in her hands. She thought about taking a nap, but she knew that would be impossible with all the noise. Besides, she wasn't tired at all.

She sat against the wall for what seemed like forever, but was really only a few minutes, before her stomach started to growl. It'd been a while since she'd eaten anything, but she didn't realize how long it had been until now. Standing, she shoved her phone in her pocket and grabbed her book, looking around for some place to eat. There weren't many options. Downstairs, there was a gift shop that sold candy bars, a small coffee shop, and a Subway that was so full it'd take all night for her to finally get to order. Adelaide finally decided on going to the coffee shop. A vanilla latte' sounded amazing, and it would be much more quiet than out here. 'Maybe I could cop some Tylenol from someone.'  She thought. Her head didn't feel any better than before, and it was putting her in a bad mood.
