Lan Zhans breath grew short as his feet shifted into a running motion. His light panting becoming all too audible in his ears, and the heavy adrenaline shooting all through out miles and miles of his body.
Sweat was slowly and steadily running down his face like a stream of salted water; only these were drops of cold sweat.
Why was he running? He didnt know.
He wanted to stop and maybe even turn back, but he knew he couldn't. He knew he didnt want to.
Can you really blame him for feeling a massive amount of guilt for something that could have been avoided? Or at least what he knew could have been avoided. Life just wasn't some happy ever after fairytale, nor was it always a pure place for a multitude of fairy obvious reasons; this was no exception.
Of course, he knew what happened wasn't his fault. He didn't do anything remotely wrong. He wasn't the one that kicked the other out, nor had he ever abandoned him; quite the opposite actually.
What he did have-and still does have- is guilt for his vile behavior towards the other. He should have been nicer. He shouldn't have pushed him away, nor continued to relentlessly offend and insult the other.
He should have been sincere, should have. But when Lan Wangji is the matter at hand, it isn't very probable.
What he couldn't comprehend was just how intolerant he came off as. He wasn't usually like that- seeing as he simply had absolutely no interest in another human being- nor was he in any way, easily provoked.
He wouldn't question it, but he knew that Wei Wuxian was simply... special. Maybe it was his charismatic behavior or exterior. Or maybe it was appreciation to his unique self-driven and dependability he had.
Though the most well-rounded answer would be because Wei Wuxian was Lan Wangji's first real friend.
He would never let his emotions show through the thick facade he seemed to always bare on his face. His mind, though always running on stress and fatigue, never once readable. His mask never once collapsing.
He wasn't much for overly expressive emotions, that's a given, but he did have them. He was a human being after all; a person. Was he not?
Lan Wangji rapidly began to slow down after his legs gave out to exhaustion. The long time-driven brawl catching up to his nerves, knees and over worked body that ran more than 3 miles in 45 minutes.
He had to thank his grandfather for pushing his body to its extent when he was younger with kung fu classes, or else he would have long gave out.
Till this day, he never once could interpret the reason as to why he had to acquire such a skill, though who knew if he would ever have to use it to protect someone someday.
Like his beloved.
He scanned the surrounding, and very foren territory. He never really found himself in this part of China unless he absolutely couldn't avoid it.
It wasn't that he thought it was a bad part of town, nor did he ever once think or it as run down or dangerous, he just wasn't much for leaving his safe space; the opposite of Wei Wuxian.
Upon a farther walk, he spotted what looked to be a small and awfully cute cafe with the matching description he was given; which made him believe it was the right one.
He simply gazed at the cafe, calming his nerves with deep and shallow breaths. Why was he so nervous? It could be the adrenaline of a long awaited reunion, or excitement. Whichever the case, he just needed a pause to think, and calm down.
Inhale, exhale. Inhale, exhale.
He closed his eyes and felt as his body relaxed, shoulders fell and chest rose and fell.
"Okay."
His hand rested on the cold metal of the door knob, and fingers curled around the metal, twisting it open and revealing its clean interior.
The inside was very neat and welcoming. He liked that.
One foot stepped inside, while the other shortly following after. The sound of the door closing shut behind him, and the light ringing of the bell hung cleanly above the door was enough to alert a certain said troublemaker.
"Welcome to Yun-"
Wei Wuxians eyes widened and pupils dilated as he stared at the very familiar silhouette of an old acquaintance. Presumably, Lan Wangji, the last person he would expect to see.
"Lan Zhan.."
A/N: I hate myself for posting this short excuse of a story. I will write better for the next one I promise. :)
Take care.
