The two walked along side eachother in pure, awkward silence as the shadows concealed their silhouettes in the dark atmospheric light. Neither had said a word to both eachother or at all, and although awkward, it was somehow very comforting.
Neither could deny that they had missed the pure knowledge of knowing and being aware of the others presence- that they were there. Although, Lan Wangji wished Wei Wuxian would be louder, normal, happier. Because he wasn't that, not at all.
He knew wanting Wei Wuxian to be "normal" was selfish in many ways. He hadn't known the male for long so he couldn't really depict nor claim he knew what Wei Wuxian being "normal" meant in the first place. But if it meant things could go back to how they were before, he wouldn't mind being selfish for that; he wanted that more than anything.
Wei Wuxian was his only and vital friend. He needed him to be there, to support him and Wei Wuxian needed the same. He needed it more than Lan Wangji ever did and he was aware of that fact, which is why he wanted to be there for him. He knew that the other wasn't the type to accept such guidance or aid. He'd always been selfless after all, and no one could blame him for that. Only use.
"So, where are you staying..? The night I mean. It's pretty dark already and you seemed tired back at the café. Lack of sleep?"
The usual ball of energy asked the stoic male walking beside him, side by side with an unreadable expression plastered onto his pale facial feautures, his voice growing quieter the longer his sentence carried out. He'd usually been an open book to the average bystander, but Lan Wangji knew better. He knew that when it came to Wei Ying, nothing is at it seemed to be.
Unraveling Wei Ying as a person wasn't difficult. Maybe a challenge to some, but nothing near impossible and especially for someone as observant and presice as Lan Wangji happened to be. The problem was knowing how the other felt, his feeling, precise emotions and what he'd do next regardless of what topic or circumstances were at hand. Those were the real mysteries- to Lan Wangji at least.
Everyone thought they understood Wei Ying, which is why no one bothered to look closer, to examine, to study; they couldn't be bothered with something as trivial as that. A lot of people weren't interested in who he was, but rather what he could do or give- like support and guidance.
And like that, their vicinity grew dark, blurry and deserted while the dreadful silence weighed and clawed at their ears like a hungry pack of starved wolves. Lan Wangji hadn't answered the other male and instead remained quiet, his body shifting to the side everytime he took a step forward. The longer he felt the weight shifting to his feat heavily, only for it to rise, he'd realized he hadnt known where they were going at all.
"You aren't going home tonight, are you?"
Wei Ying awkwardly chukled as a response to his own question even if it seemed to be rather quiet, it was just enough to break the tension built between the two from Wei Yings question to the other."Mn."
That was all, Lan Wangjis bland and color-drained response, and yet somehow, Wei Ying always knew exactly what it meant. Of course, he wasnt an intellectual like Lan Xichen who could decipher and dissect every little emotion Lan Wangji felt or experienced. Neither knew how he did it as Lan Wangji was a very ascetic, stoic and just severely abrasive person in manner; seemly emtiontionless at times to those who didn't pay attention.
But Wei Ying payed attention, he always did. Both because he felt draw to doing so; as if Lan Wangji was alien, new to him and so captivating even if everyone thought other wise. So much so that his eyes felt glued to him, following every move he'd make and knowing so beforehand. And also, because he always did that, he always scanned and observed. He was always learning, always discovering and all because he'd learned to do so when he shouldn't have-through hell.
"I'm currently living with a few people. Erm, two! Actually. They're siblings and although we aren't similar, we somehow click, you know? I'm sure they'd be fine with you staying a night. So, what do you say? You in?" He asked the other with a quick hinch of his movements, a quick turn of his body and his usual smile present on display- out presenting how honest he was this time around about that quirky smile, and what it meant.
"...yeah..." Lan Wangji hesitated at first, even if it was what he wanted from the beginning, to spend time with the other boy. It made him feel weird, excited and somehow, it seemed very ethereal in concept. Spending the night at Wei Ying's? he was happy to be seeing him, to be spending time and staying with him, yet he wondered what that obscure feeling was, surfacing at the pit of his stomach. He felt almost anxious, yet so immersed and drowned into anticipation that he couldn't describe anything he was feeling and most of all, he couldn't contain how liberated he felt when he was with Wei Ying.
It was simply Wei Ying's gift persay. He had this ability to make you feel free, open, distressed and as if nothing the world mattered more than that moment. Atleast for Lan Zhan, it always felt like time had stopped, everything subsited and it was just the two of them together. Nothing more, nothing less and he really did wish time could stop in those few memories, and the rest of the world would stop- he didnt care how selfish it was.
He just wanted it.
"Alright then! We aren't that far from there, so just hang on, okay? Do you want to stop by a convince store around us or something?"
Wei Ying turned to face the other male with a rather energetic look plastered proudly onto his feautures, his body still facing north yet slightly tilting to the right; Lan Wangjis direction.
"Sure." Lan Wangji replied, feeling excited but in no way would you every guess so, unless you're Lan Xichen that is. They waked along side eachother in pure silence, listeing to the sound of their feet hitting the concrete ground every step they took. Lan wangji stared at the front, his view drowning in dark hues and their surroundings now washed and drained of any remaining, faint color. While Wei Wuxian looked down at his feet, watching as they shifted and repeated, his senses focusing on his view and the sound of cars and loud bugs singing their night ballades like usual.
Conversations sometimes began, more leaning towards comments, but somehow, the two had a feeling that they should ask and talk when they'd settled down. Maybe it was because they both had sometimes they wanted to say, something crucial, but none wanted to blurt said thing out until it was reasonable to, or maybe they were afraid to. Maybe they didn't want to talk just as much as they did; they felt confused and dismayed.
After a few minutes for what felt like hours of walking, they'd spotted a convenience store or the other side of the block, to the right. A few more steps from the corner store and you'd find the house they were looking for which was definitely convient. Maybe, just maybe, hence the name?
They didn't know it yet, but that night, something new would spark. Maybe not what they'd hoped or expected, and maybe neither would realize what eachother meant to one another, but they would soon learn to. And this time around, it wouldn't be like it had been centuries ago, it wouldn't like that. Their ending wouldn't end in misery or longing. This time around, they could both feel just how happy they were together. They'd long to relish the night they bonded through alcohol and tears.
Destiny begins to change over time, but fate always has a funny way of repeating itself, dosen't it?
A/N: Life is stressful with school and as i had mentioned previously, family issues. I decided to make this chapter in particular shorter than the next because it would build up to what I like to believe to be possibly my favorite chapter to write. It sparks the start of a new arc and no, the next chapter is very wholesome. That's actually why I love it so much, it clears up things the best I can manage to do so in a sensual manner.
