Senior year

The first day of school
Just like the past 14 years years
Expect I'm a senior.
The year of "my last first..."
my last first day of high school
My last first day of opening my locker
The one I've been with since freshman year
My last first claiming a lunch table
My last first day of walking the halls.
I remember last year I was in 2 senior classes.
Forensics
And human anatomy and physiology.
Only one class stood out
Human Anatomy and physiology.
Why?
I had it with 6 months left of school.
Where the seniors had all their last's.
The last test
The last project
The last final
The last bell
The last walking out of class early.
They had all these last's
That my senior class didn't.
We didn't know that March 13th was the last.
We took it all for granted.
We all wished it was a half day.
Teachers didn't do anything.
We cleaned out the lockers
Hoping to go back in 2 weeks
But we didn't.
We didn't get to do a senior walk
We didn't get to walk through our schools
Remembering old memories
As we say goodbye to our old teachers.
We didn't get to do a senior prank
We didn't get to do a senior cookout
We didn't get to go on our senior class trip.
We didn't get our last prom.
We didn't get our last home game.
Spring sports didn't get senior night.
We keep getting told
"Don't let this make you forget all the accomplishments you've had before this"
True.
There are a lot of accomplishments our class had through high school.
But all we looked forward to was
Senior year.
The big year were we run the school.

So to the class of 2021, please, don't take your last year of high school for granted. Enjoy the first day of school. Let your mom take 200 pictures, she's proud you've come this far. Go to every home game, even if you don't like the sport. Go to homecoming even if you hate dances, go to prom even if you don't have a date or hate dancing. Don't spend your senior year like every other year. Make it count. Go on your senior trip. Tell your teachers thank you and that you appreciate them because you may not know it but they don't want to see you go, they watched you grow from this 14 year old shy kid to this 18 year old confident kid.
                            Sincerely,
                             A senior.
