"It has been 2 whole weeks since I discovered abo-"
"2 and a half weeks since I did." Jaemin added out of the blue, cutting off Hyuck from whining to which he received a side eye from.
"That's not the point." Hyuck sighed as he started again. "As I have said, it has been 2 weeks and you still won't disclose to us how or why it appeared."
The trio, Haechan, Jaemin, and Ayeon, were currently hanging out at the botanical garden of the university. They all sat around the circular table underneath the huge metal umbrella.
The said area was situated between the main building and the medical department. It has been a place for hang outs and de-stressing students for it has a calming atmosphere, being surrounded by plants that hang on the wall and arches, to the bushes and grass that's been cut and trimmed into shapes. There would be birds chirping and humming to the breeze of the afternoon wind. In addition, the huge pond with a bridge on top that leads to a more secluded area of the garden is another reason why the students love the place.
"I already told you, guys, that I don't know." Raising both of her arms in defeat, exclaiming her that she's being honest.
"Oh please, cut the bull." Donghyuck retorted, sighing as he rested back on his seat.
The two young men eyed her from their seats.
"We're your friends! we're not supposed to keep secrets from each other." Hyuck sighed for the nth time.
Ayeon almost scoffed at his statement. Right, friends!
The atmosphere around them was getting tense. Nobody tried to break the silence. Jaemin slightly tapped his fingers on the wooden table, eyes on it as well. Haechan on the other side had his intense gaze on the open space, biting on his bottom lip.
Jaemin cleared his throat breaking the silence, catching the attention of the two who were in a trance.
"You know...It's almost two pm." Jaemin trailed off, pointing towards the open space behind him using his thumb. "I've got a class to attend to in a few minutes so I'll just go." He stated awkwardly, eyeing both Ayeon and Hyuck repeatedly, before taking his time to leave the two.
Hyuck only stared at him and nodded in understanding.
"Mhm. Good luck." Ayeon hummed and shouted in response as he was walking away to which Jaemin waved his hand.
Once the two were left together, Ayeon's dark brown eyes slowly made their way to Donghyuck's figure who was poking the inside of his cheek using his tongue, spacing out. The sight made Ayeon's heart skip a beat. She did not understand how someone could look so cute and ethereal at the same time.
You see, Donghyuck could do the bare minimum and Ayeon would still look at him with wonder.
"Let's go for a walk." Donghyuck stated out of the blue, breaking Ayeon's trance.
Before Ayeon could respond, Hyuck was already up from his seat and his long legs started to stride off to the direction of the magnificent wooden bridge.
The moment the boy realized that there were no other footsteps behind him, he partly turned around, eyes on the girl that was frozen in her place. "Aren't you coming?" He mouthed as he cocked an eyebrow and subtly tilted his head.
Finally getting to her senses, the young woman quickly followed behind the male.
Once Donghyuck stopped his tracks, Ayeon stood beside him, looking over to the pond, watching the koi fishes swim in satisfaction. The silence engulfed them and only the tiny chirping of the birds could be heard. Hyuck's hair billowed through the wind, giving Ayeon's attention a scenic view.
Unlike Ayeon, the young man had his back turned to the water, his arms at his side, resting on the ledge as he leaned his back on it. His eyes slowly found its way on her inked neck, tracing the outline of the purple heather tattoo.
"The colors are so vibrant now... unlike 2 weeks ago when it was barely there." Hyuck commented quietly, not wanting to break the atmosphere.
Her glassy eyes met Hyuck's. His statement made her nod in response, giving him a small tight smile as she tried to adjust her red scarf to hide it.
Hyuck's hand slowly reached out to held Ayeon's small ones in attempt to stop the girl from doing so.
"It's beautiful. It really is." The young man complimented, still gazing over to the girl beside him.
"You know..." The male trailed off when nobody spoke, finally standing straight facing the short young woman. "There's a possibility that your tattoo appeared because of someone else, but typical me assumes that the tattoo appeared on your skin because of me."
Ayeon broke the eye contact and looked over the pond, scoffing at his words. "Wo-"
The young girl could not believe what she was hearing. Ayeon took in a sharp breath as she was bewildered and puzzled, her soft eyebrows knitted together. Had she really been that obvious? Was she not able to fully conceal her emotions whenever he's around? Has he heard the loud beating of my heart every time he's near me? All these questions ran through her mind.
The beating of her heart continued to increase and she could swear that Hyuck could hear it. She was extremely nervous, her mind and heart couldn't cope well with what's happening. It feels like she was hyperventilating on the inside as she tried to keep a straight face.
"Shh. Let me finish." Hyuck cut her off, pressing a finger over her pink plump lips.
"I really do hope that it did because..." He paused, taking a breath.
Donghyuck's soft hands slowly made its way to Ayeon's cheeks, turning it towards his direction so that she was facing him. He slowly bent down to be on Ayeon's eye level, staring straight into her shining ones that show various emotions.
"...I like you, Ayeon. I really do." He trailed off, finishing his confession. "But if it's not me, then things might get awkward between us and I'd hate that."
Silence engulfed the atmosphere. Nobody talked nor bothered to break it. Ayeon's eyes kept on jumping from one place to another, except on Hyuck's face. She was looking everywhere but him. Her mind was blank, it was as if she forgot everything. All she could feel was her heart's loud beating and her breathing that quickened.
Hyuck on the other hand only had his attention on Ayeon's face, more particularly, the female's eyes. He was searching for answers, but could barely read anything. The girl was just frozen. He could feel his heart wildly thumping inside him as though it could break his ribcage any minute.
He didn't expect that it would happen the way it did. He didn't expect anything at all. Hyuck just wanted her to know about his feelings. But there he was, suddenly wanted the ground beneath his feet to swallow him all.
The muscles in his face tightened, wanting to conceal and controlled the emotions on his face. Although, any signs of cockiness was nowhere to be found. The usual confidence that he has seemed to have been drained out.
"You know what? I'll just..." The boy had uttered, not finishing what he was about to say. The silence had been deafening to him. With one last breath, Hyuck took a tiny step backwards before pivoting on his heel and slowly took off with his shoulders slumped.
