Kei pushed the branches out of his way, hearing them snap back in place as he let them go. It was like a small private beach off from the main area, which was near a large docking bay for small to medium ships. He found it too noisy, with all the people around. This was his favourite spot, he could sit on the large, expensive rocks and watch over the water. The trees offered a good amount of shade and a gentle breeze. He pushed himself up onto the large rock, placing down the small lunch box and book. He'd often spend an hour or just sitting and reading, and that's what he did today. Once he finished the book, he gently placed it by his lunch box and stretched, yawning after. He heard a little giggle from somewhere in the surrounding area, which caused him to quickly look around. To the left of him, he saw a young boy, probably about his age, looking up at him. He was partly in the water.

"How long have you been there?" Kei frowned, pulling his belongings closer to him.

"Hm, not long. You maybe had less than a quarter left of your book." He flicked his tail, which was a greater surprise to Kei. He jerked backward, he looked like he'd been whiplashed.

"Is that... Is that a tail?' Kei blinked a few times to make sure it was real. "Are you a... a uh... mermaid?"

"Sure am! Guess you're a little more surprised by my existence than I was of yours. Never been up here before."

Kei rubbed his hands together. This felt too unreal to him.

"Uh yeah, I didn't think you guys actually existed."

The mermaid laughed, it was strangely beautiful. "I thought you guys were totally fake! It just didn't seem real enough when my kind would talk about you. It's so cool to actually see those... what're they called? The things under your torso?"

Kei pointed to his legs, and the mermaid nodded. "Uh legs."

Kei turned, letting his legs fall off the side of the rock. He was so close to this mythical creature. The mermaid reached out, perhaps wanting to feel them. But weren't they incredibly strong? What if he was dragged into the water? But the boy spoke, almost of if he had been reading his mind.

"It's okay, I won't hurt you. I just wanna know what they feel like."

Kei sat on the idea for a moment, and for some reason, agreed. He put his leg out, feeling the slimy fingers running down his leg. He bit the inside of his cheek, trying not to gag. Felt just like seaweed... yuck. If that didn't wake him up, clearly he was not dreaming.

"Wow! It's even fuzzy! That's so cool!" The boy laughed a little more. Kei couldn't help the racing heart and blush that came from hearing it. It was astounding to listen to, truly impeccable. He took a deep breath and adjusted his glasses. The mermaid watched him with great curiosity.

"What're those?"

"Glasses," Kei touched them unconsciously, "I use them to see since my eyes aren't great."

He watched the other nod, mumbling it back to himself. He checked his watch after, his stomach growling reminding him he had to be home soon. The time on his watch proved sooner than he thought.

"I have to get going," Kei said slowly, not wanting to leave this magnificent thing, "or my mother isn't going to be happy with me."

"Okay! Before you go, tell me. What do you guys call yourself?"

"What do you mean?" Kei rose an eyebrow.

"Like, everyone calls me Yamaguchi."

Kei nodded, "Right. We all have names too. Mine is Tsukishima." There was no harm in telling him right? Not like he could stalk him out of water.

Yamaguchi frowned for the first time in the conversation. "Tsu-Tsuki-shima?"

Kei nodded but Yamaguchi shook his head. "I think it's too long, so I'm going to call you something else. Your new name is... Tsukki! It's like half of what everyone else calls you."

Kei himself frowned, but something about the way he said it, he didn't hate it.

"Okay Yamaguchi, well I really have to go now, but we could always meet again tomorrow?"

The mermaid beamed at him, obviously liking the idea.

"But come a little earlier, that way we can talk for a little bit longer." What was he saying? Was he really admitting to wanting to be with something? Who even cared? It's not like he had a reputation to uphold around the mermaid.

"Okay Tsukki! I'll see you in the next day!"

Kei watched Yamaguchi push himself off shore and into the water. He climbed over to the other side of the rock, grabbing his belongings before leaving the small shore. He couldn't believe he'd be coming back to meet with the mythical creature, and to be honest, he didn't really hate it. He wanted to know more, there was something about him that tugged at Kei. He almost wanted to turn around and call for him, but he had to wait. To be fair, Yamaguchi was no less patient to return to see the tall, blond human.
