A/N: wow it's been so long since I've updated, because my goodness has school been rough, but here I am! This is based on a suggestion with a few tweaks, especially since Yamaguchi would never skip school 😔✌️. Enjoy!

Tadashi could feel his gut twisting and turning, his heart pounding with anticipation. In the morning, he had set up the house, there were plenty balloons hanging from the ceiling, a cake and of course a present sitting in his dining room. Beyond that, he had set up his own mini home-theatre, a movie they had watched thousands of times together ready to be played. His mother and sister had been nice enough to leave the house for the day, even while the two went out for lunch together. The Sunday market was on in town, so that's where they had headed.

"Hey Tsukki," Tadashi said, tugging on the other's jacket, "maybe we should grab some fresh strawberries on our way back. They looked super good." He bit down on his takoyaki.

Tsukishima nodded, swallowing his mouthful of imagawayaki, the red bean paste coating his top lip. Yamaguchi quickly wiped it away with a napkin.

"Thanks," Tsukishima shot him a quick smile, "and I'd suggest that'd be pleasant, I could always go for some." He took another bite. He looked content, which made Tadashi happy. It was the most important day of the year, after all.

"You're still coming over after, right? Did you grab your stuff or should we make a detour to your house on the way back?"

"Yes, you've asked me that a few times today. Are you worried I don't want to spend time with you or something?"

Tadashi cut him off with a nervous laugh. "Sorry, I guess I just really want to spend time with you."

Tsukishima eyed him, then looked down at his food. "And to answer your other question, I do need to stop by at home. My bag is ready, but I didn't think it be useful to bring along with us today."

"Does that mean we can stop at McDonald's on the way? This is good, don't get me wrong, but so are fries..." He licked his lips, thinking about the food, before biting down on what was in front of him.

"If that's what you'd like, then I wouldn't mind."

They sat in a peaceful silence, listening to people walk past them while they ate. It was fresh outside, cold almost, but pleasant. Not too long after, they were ready to start heading home.

They passed the fruit stall to buy a punnet of strawberries, then retraced their steps to begin walking to the McDonald's. The walk was quiet, holding hands as they made their way through the alleyways to be alone. Tadashi couldn't help but smile, at the same time, feeling like his heart was going to pop out of his mouth. They bought their fries, which Tadashi carefully place in his shoulder bag as to not spill them.

Next was Kei's house, which was a fair walk, but not too bad. Tadashi waited by the fence for Kei, watching the dog in the yard next door roll in the front lawn, an adult gardening along the front of the house. He was small, and Tadashi wanted to pat him, but by the time Tsukishima had come back out, he still hadn't mustered up the courage to ask, so he left it be.

As the left, it felt like time slowed. Somehow the walk was taking twice as long, it prolonged his feelings of nervousness and stress, he felt like he would probably vomit if it were going to be any slower. He held onto Tsukishima's hand tight, but the other didn't ask about it. By the time they reached his front doorstep, his legs were like spaghetti and his mind a grenade. Too many thoughts swirling in his mind, in the fear the Kei wouldn't like it.

He felt warm lips press up against his forehead, and he dropped his shoulders, his mind going silent.

"Tadashi, you need to calm down. You're sweating bullets."

Tadashi watched Kei wipe his hand on his shirt, and he blushed out of embarrassment.

"Sorry Tsukki!" He pulled his keys out of his pocket and unlocked the door, pushing it open.

"Happy birthday Tsukki!"

The two of the stepped inside and Tadashi closed the door.

"I tried my best, I hope you like it. But it's okay if you don't! It's not like you have to, it might be stupid anyway-"

Tsukishima had placed his hand of Tadashi's mouth at this point, staring right at him.

"Calm down Tadashi, it's really nice, I love it."

Tadashi smiles, it really meant the entire world it him that Tsukishima had even thought it was nice, he rarely ever said that about anything.

"Thanks Tsukki, let's go out your bag in my room then I'll show you the main part. But only after! And no peeking in the lounge room or I'll kick your butt." He huffed at the end, watching Tsukishima walk off.

He put the strawberries in the sink, letting them soak in water. He put the fries out his bag, then placed both on the countertop. He smiled to himself, he felt proud of what he had done. He felt a warmth against his back, arms sliding around his waist. He smiled bigger than before, turning around in the hold.

"Love you Tsukki."

"Love you too, Tadashi."

Tsukishima pecked his lips, but it seemed impatient.

"Something wrong?" Tadashi laughed, raising an eyebrow.

"I wanna know what's in the lounge." Tsukishima sounded whiny now, clearly comfortable in the space they were occupying.

"Okay, okay, but we gotta grab some stuff first."

Though it only ended up being Tadashi who grabbed things, as he was the only one that knew what was happening. He handed off a box of popcorn to Tsukishima, then grabbed out two cup, filling them with Sprite and placing straws in them.

"To the lounge room we go!"

And Tsukishima was quick to following, turning around and making a few large steps into the room. He smiled as he slid the door open the rest of the way. The balloons lightly swayed from the breeze of the fan, the large futon on the floor ready for the two of them. Tadashi places the drinks on the small side table, which Tsukishima then put the bowl of popcorn on before getting down onto the floor.

"Tadashi, I love it."

Tadashi blushed smiling wide, an unprompted thought meant the world to him.

"I'm so glad." And with that, he quickly joined the other, cuddling right up to his side.

He stated up the television and pressed play on the movie they had seen thousands of times. Then again, something you see so often can only be so interesting. Tsukishima quickly became affectionate, whether out of boredom or actual excitement over his present, Tadashi was unsure, but they lay there, dinosaurs in the background and the shared soft kisses and "I love you"'s with each other. It didn't take them long to fall asleep either, completely disregarding the movie altogether. But they lay entwined in each other, resting together.
