A few weeks later I get my date for my first scan. Julian and we both take the morning of work and sit in the waiting room, Julian holds my hand I trace the veins on his had distracting myself from the bad thoughts going through my head.

They call us in and we are greeted by a pale woman with rusty red hair pulled into a ponytail, I lay on the bed and roll up my top; Julian takes my hand and smiles.

The sonographer applies the gel and starts the sonogram, the room fills with silence; my grip tightens on Julian's hand but he either doesn't notice or doesn't care. The faint sound of a heart beat catches my attention, the sonographer turns the screen to us

"That's your baby," she explains,

"Do you know the sex?" Julian asks

"I can write it down for you," the sonographer says. I clean myself up while Julian gets the sonogram pictures and the envelope with the baby's sex on it.

"Are we still having everyone over tonight?" Julian asks as we walk back to the car, I nod not taking my eyes off the small black and white picture I'm carrying.

Julian drops me home quickly so I can change then I make my way to work in my own car. I can't keep the smile of my face the whole day, I show everyone at work who's willing to look the sonogram. Work speeds by and before I know it I'm home tiding up a little bit before everyone arrives, Julian quickly changes into a black tshirt and jeans as the front door goes; I open it revealing my mother and Ernest standing in the hall. Julian's mum arrives shortly after and they all sat on the sofa waiting for us to explain why we called them here.

I hand them each a small envelope containing their copy of the sonogram. Ernest jumps up and goes in for a hug hesitating slightly before he wraps his arms around my neck,

"My baby sisters having a baby! I'm so happy for you, for both of you"

"The baby's beautiful, do you know the sex?" Mrs Bennett asks

"No, we have it in here though" Julian explains holding up the envelope labelled baby Bennett.

"Well don't just stand there, open it!" My mother squeals

"Okay, okay we are having....." I open the envelope and take a deep breath and look at the page, I look at Julian and he smiles

"IT'S A GIRL" he screams,

"We're having a girl?" I ask still in shock

"We're having a girl" he sings, I kiss him

"I can't believe it." I sigh, Ernest picks me up and spins

"Ernest put me down this can't be good!" I laugh

"Sorry, I'm just so excited."

That night Julian and I lay in bed, Julian writes 'I love you' over and over on my stomach

"What should we call her?" He asks

"I'm not sure, I haven't been thinking about names if I'm honest" I explain, we back to silence while Julian rubs my stomach trying to get a reaction from the baby. He just about gives up when she kicks his hand

"She's like her mother, loves her sleep" he laughs

"You should pick her name," I say, Julian gives me a confused look

"Are you sure?" He asks

"I named a cat Freddie Mercury, I'm sure" I laugh

"Okay, how about....Adeline?"

"Adeline Bennett, sounds strong like her father" I say

"And stubborn like her mother" he laughs and Adeline kicks him again.

JULIAN POV

I stretch my arm out to wrap around Jade but hit her mountain of pillows instead, I hear mumbling coming from the living room; I roll out of bed and follow the sound.

"Babe?" I ask seeing jade shadowed in the light of her laptop

"Julian, there's so much to do" she mumbles

"Jade babe, come back to bed we can do this in the morning"

"No, no we can't! We have to find a new place, we have set up a bank account for her and what happens to her if something happens to us? We need to sort out our wills and..."

"Jade, breath all this can be done in the morning nothing will be open now" I explain, she stops and looks up at me; her eyes are droopy and red.

"We...we need to...she..." she mutters, I fall to my knees and pull her into a hug

"I promise first thing in the morning we will sort this all out if that's what you want but you need to sleep, okay?" I ask pulling back to look at her; she nods and we make our way back to bed.
