"Were you the one who saw my niece?" Professor David stared into his eyes with intense loathing. Lucas stuttered, "I-I-I"
"It was my fault." Mira interrupted. "I wanted to finally see what was out there, so I slipped out. Though, it didn't work out as planned." She motions to Lucas. "I accidentally stepped on something sharp, and then I, well, lashed out and tripped Lucas - that is your name, correct?"
Lucas was dumbfounded. How could she ever have such powers without the proper training? Even though her uncle is the great Professor David, that isn't enough to have such a high class of magic control! It should at least take double her age to perfect it, right?
"H-how did y-you?" Lucas started, but Professor David cut him off, "Well, if that is the case, I guess this one is off the hook." David then turned to Lucas with a smile, "I'm glad that my top student wasn't trying to nose into my business."
Mira brightened, "Great, I'm glad that we're on the same page. So, he can just leave and act like that never happened." She then tried to usher Lucas out of the house, "and, you can just go about your day now. You're going to be late!"
Professor David cleared his throat getting the attention of the two. "However, I can not let YOU off the hook, Mira. Because of this, you have misplaced your freedom and my trust in you. So, because of this I have an idea."
David then stepped back and waved his hands in the air to create a contract designed for Lucas and Mira.
"Here is the plan," David first turned toLucas, " Because you are a bright student, and the only person to ever see my niece, I want you to look after and train Mira." Then, David glared at his niece. "And Mira, because you have lost my trust, you will have to spend the majority of your time with Lucas."
Lucas was mortified. "What! I have to train her, a girl! What about all my other activities?"
Mira looked at Lucas with deep distaste, "It's not like I want to be here to you know." She retorted with a snort. "And, what are you talking about!"
Mira advanced towards Lucas completely offended by Lucas's comment. With every step she took, her face reddened with anger and complete annoyance.
" 'Oh. My. Gosh. I have to train a girl!' Well, excuse me, but I believe this girl could do anything ten times better than you. Magic wise." She said.
Lucas scoffed in disbelief, with slight annoyance he said, "I have never seen a girl mage in my life."
And with that statement, Professor Davis knew what would happen in the next few minutes. So, he took his leave, wishing the best of luck to the both before he would be completely obliterated by his niece.
"I hope that you will get along, for the future of this world." He bowed to the both and disappeared.
Silence spread throughout the kitchen area.
That was until Mira blasted a bolt of lightning to Lucas's head. He reacted as quickly as he could and dropped to the ground. Looking back, he found the wall behind him scorched and fading to ashes.
"WHAT THE HECK!" He yelled and snapped his head back to the girls enraged standing before him. "ARE YOU TRYING TO KILL ME!"
Mira started to walk slowly to Lucas, a smirk slowly forming on her once reddened face. "Maybe... After all, I'm just trying to prove a point. There was never a girl mage, right?"
TEMPER MUCH!
"Look, I'm sorry. Okay! I just have never seen a girl mage, not, in or outside school . It's just... I don't know... weird seeing one for the first time."
Lucas slowly got to his feet and looked down to the slightly shorter female. Mira squinted her eyes and glared back.
"What about your mom, dimwit."
Lucas was puzzled, his mom has never used magic in his life. "But she only lives with the magic, she doesn't use it."
"She is still a mage."
Mira stood a bit taller so she could see his reaction.
Lucas recoiled. "Okay... But, I still have never encountered a female mage, that can USE magic to their will. Let alone using it with THAT much force."
He pointed to the once wall, now only a black clump between the kitchen and the outside world.
Mira leaned to the side to get a clear view of her 'amazing work' and smiled. "Well I guess I'll have to be the first..."
"Ha! Okay. Your confidence is too much for me." Lucas started to feel more comfortable with this strange girl. He took a step back, turned around and headed out the door.
"Hey! Where are you going!" Mira yelled running towards Lucas . She held his wrist and made him turn around to face her. "We have work to do."
Lucas looked down at the girl once more, "I have school."
"What?"
"School."
"You go to school?"
Lucas was more annoyed with every passing second.
"Of course I go to school. Like your uncle said I am one of the BRIGHTEST students. Look, I promise I will be back after classes to train you, Miss lightning fingers. So, how about you let go of my wrist... Please."
Mira let go in an instant.
This was the first time she ever had contact, let alone talk to a boy. She has never met anyone besides her uncle and aunt, and she just hoped that he would keep his promise.
She hoped that she could find someone that could care for her.
She hoped that he could be her savior from this horrible world where people believed someone like her was a monster, a child of pure chaos.
As he left, Mira could feel her cheeks heat up with rage, annoyance, and something else...
