Part 27: matching pair

Y/N POV

Me and Eret got back just in time for dinner. We sit next to the others as Fishlegs talks excitedly about a new discovery he made.
-Wow, haven't seen Fishlegs this hyped up since he found out meatlug was a girl, I laugh slightly as I take a seat.
-Well this is the next best thing! He says.
-Y/N! Just the woman I wanted to meet! Hiccup says from the other side of the table.
-Hiccup! What's up? I ask.
-I'm finished with the design of your armor! He says and I choke on air.
-All of it!? I ask in shock.
-No! Well, kind of... I just need your measurements and some more scales... Then it's done! He says happily.
-Wait really? No more tests? I ask and rub my arm that is slightly scarred from the burn I got.
-No! The test we did before was successful and all I need is some measurements, Hiccup tells me. I nod at him.
-Thank you Hiccup, I say and take a bite out of the food on my plate. Hiccup nods back as we start a new conversation.

-So Eret, What did you find by the gates today? Fishlegs asks curiously.
-Well... He says unsure and looks at me.
-We found out that... if a piece we found loose, is to fall? The whole thing is going to collapse, he finishes and looks back at them. Everyone sighs and groans.
-C'mon guys, they're ancient. It was going to happen one way or another, I say reassuringly. They let out some "I guess so" 's and "yeah" 's.
-Besides, you get to help build the new ones, I say. Then suddenly, all of their faces light up and they share ideas amongst each other excitedly. Eret chuckles at their sudden outbursts.
-You really know what to say for every situation, he praises me.
-I try, I smile as we enjoy our dinner whilst listening to the younger people's thoughts and ideas.

When me and Eret finished dinner, we snuck away from the table and headed out. The sky was turning dark and I walk as close to Eret as possible.
-Walk me home? I ask and stare up at him. He pretended to be deep in though by rubbing his chin. Then he smiled down at me.
-Why don't we just chill at my house for a while. I have barely gotten any alone time with you today, he says and changes direction to his house.
-Eret, we literally spent all day together working on those gates, I laugh as he opens the door.
-You know what I mean. Not-work-related time spending, he clarified and I sit down in his bench-sofa thing. He closes the door behind him and takes a seat next to me, casually throwing his arm up behind my neck, making me instinctively lean against his side. I take a deep breath and sigh happily.
-I always liked your house more than mine, I say quietly.
-Why's that...? Eret asks as he brings his arm around me to bring us closer to each other. My hand grabs his and I fiddle with his fingers.
-I don't know... maybe it's because it's quieter here. There's not two adults always talking until they finally fall asleep... there's not a loudly snoring little brother 2 meters away from you, I say, making Eret laugh.
-Even though that's the most calming part, I say and giggle slightly. The house gets quiet as we spend a moment in silence.
-Spend the night, Eret says suddenly. I whip my head around to look at him.
-What? I ask. Eret looks down at me.
-Spend the night if you like it here so much, he says, his eyes locked with mine and both our cheeks turning red. I smile.
-You know I would love to... but I can't, I say, hoping I don't break his heart.
-Why? He asks curiously. I smile and hold his big hand in mine.
-Because Snotlout would hunt you down if he finds me here, I say and Eret laughs.
-That is true... he says and we sit once again in silence. But it was nice. The coal in the fireplace was slightly glowing, making a nice warm hue cover the room. We sit there until it gets dark and I look outside.
-Uhm... Eret, I say and he looks at me.
-Hmmm? He asks. Then he follows my gaze out the window and he smiles amused.
I look up at him and smile sheepishly.
-Walk me home...? I ask. Eret nods and squeezes my hand. We both stand up from the sofa and he walks me the 15 whole meters to my house.
-Thank you, I say and look at the ground.
-It was my pleasure, he says. I look up at him, his grin still on his face.
-Oh stop it, I say, cheeks turning red.
-Never. I like teasing you, he says and pokes my nose. I shake my head in amusement.
-... Be thankful that I can only be teased by you, idiot, I say.
-I am, trust me... He says and I notice that we've both leaned in. I look at his lips, then up at his eyes. He did the same, as if asking for permission. I nod slowly and he puts a hand on my cheek, us both leaning in a little more.
Suddenly the door slams open, making me jump almost 1 meter up in the air. I let out a big breath and try to calm my heart, when I see that it is only my dad. He eyes Eret and nods impressed.
-Most boys would've run by now, he says.
-Well, sir, if I may say... I don't think most boys are fit for your daughter, Eret says confidently and winks at me.
-Oh, is that so? Dad asks.
-Dad, I say warningly.
-So you think you are? Dad continues to threat. Eret straightens his back and offers the biggest smile he can.
-I sure hope I am, he says, taking my dads breath away. He looks between us in shock before sneering and walking back into the house. I giggle and jump onto Eret, who quickly catches me in a hug.
-That was... the best thing I've ever seen! I giggle and let go. Eret is still holding me off of the ground.
-He's right though... most boys would've run by now, I say confused and he keeps on smiling at me.
-I won't do that. I love you too much to run away, he says before his eyes widen as he realized what he said. I can't help but smile.
-Y... You love me, Eret son of Eret? I ask.
-Well.... Yes. Yes, I love you, He says with confidence. I hug him tightly in response.
-I love you too, you big muscly dork, I say. Eret lets me go and he can't help but smile.
-Thank you... for loving someone like me, he says.
-Of course... we're fit for each other, aren't we? I ask. He grins.
