"Do you not have any faith in us if this goes wrong is that it" He yells. I aggressively throw the last of my books into a box. I look up at him tired, it's been a week since he and Leslie finalized the divorce. I was still here while he "worked some stuff out" at his house. I've been here trying to straighten everything out with my job, I've taken far too many sick days, but since the school year is practically over they let it go. I just told Derek's I plan to keep my apartment which set him off.
"It's not about that, it's about security, about something that's mine" I admit. He lets out a frustrated sigh rubbing his eyes. I pack my last book into the box pulling on the cover.
"I'm yours," He says softly. I smile lightly looking up at him. He takes the box from me taking it down to the car. Rose comes out of my room empty-handed.
"No box," I ask. She rolls her eyes walking back into my room to get the last box. I pull my crate of wine from my kitchen making my way to the car. It's been a frustrating week, to say the least, I've been here receiving calls from my mother, Xavier, and Elena. All of them were worried about my new decision which I had no idea they knew about. My mother expressed her concern for a total of five minutes before telling me how great Chris was doing now that he was out and how he wanted to see me to apologize, words cannot to begin to express my anger I could only tell her to fuck off before launching my phone at the wall yet again.
Once I get downstairs I find Derek arguing with Rose about car seating arrangements, typical.
"I didn't have to help, I'm sitting shotgun" Rose exclaims.
"No sit in the back and let Camille sit up front" He orders. I roll my eyes stuffing my crate into the truck. He could've really hired someone else to do this. I make my way into the back seat settling the argument for them. Derek huffs while Rose cheers. She leans to change the music when Derek slaps her hands away.
"No one wants to fucking hear Jazz you old man"
"She's right" I agree. I lean forward plugging in my phone shuffling an R&B playlist. They both groan while I roll my eyes. "Yall lack taste".
...
"Well, that's the last of the boxes I'm gonna crash" Rose yells. I hear her footsteps make their way up the stairs as I take another sip of my wine in the kitchen. Derek makes his way inside his white tee-shirt clinging to his amazing body.
"Hubba hubba," I say, making him laugh. He places a kiss on my forehead making me hum. I lift my head up to look at him puckering my lips. He leans down, placing a soft kiss on them. I pull his head closer, deepening the kiss. I place my wine down using my other hand to caress his chest. He groans against me pulling away, making me whine.
"We should get tested," he suggests. I sit stunned, this coming from him.
"Uh ooookay, I'm clean Derek. I don't make it a habit of mine to have raw sex" I say. He rolls his eyes, pouring himself a glass of water.
"Me neither Camille you know that had to happen" I take a long sip of my wine.
"The only other person was Xavier" I admit. He grips the counter, inhaling a deep breath.
"I thought that wasn't one of your habits" He utters curtly.
"It's not a habit it happened with one person." He rolls his eyes exhaling a frustrated sigh. "Don't hate him he was the first after the miscarriage"
"Fucking hell Camille you're going to kill me."
"Don't act like there weren't others after you left, I know how you are"
"I never bonded with them though, you obviously feel something towards Xavier"
"He's a friend, I could never love him" I admit. Derek smiles at that. Sick bastard.
"Because your heart belongs to me" He questions, a sappy expression playing on his face.
"Yes, you child jeez." Derek laughs coming over to pull me into him. I hug him close.
"Ew," Rose says. I give her the finger as she makes her way to drink some of my wine. Derek rubs his hands up and down my spine making me smile.
"So the doctor tomorrow," he says after Rose leaves. I tilt my head up, doctor.
"The doctor doesn't sound like the clinic," I say.
"Camille you have to get checked out at some point, it's been two years. I nod uncomfortably. I know I have to but what if it's something I don't want to hear. I don't think I can take anything else. Derek pulls away from me searching my eyes.
"Don't worry Camille we will figure it out" I lean up to kiss him, appreciating him. He smiles softly against my lips. He picks me up making me wrap my legs around him. He heads up the stairs to his room laying me down. He joins me in the bed pulling me closer to him. I drift off into sleep holding him close.
