Cassidy's P.O.V
We broke apart our hug with huge grins on our sweaty faces. "Good job! You were wicked! You punched those bots like they weren't nothing!" Warren gave me a light tap on the shoulder. I laughed. "Thanks, you were wicked to! The metal blades you shot out of your wings were awesome!" I gave Warren a playful tap on the shoulder in return. His wings opened and closed as he blushed slightly and put his arm behind his head. "Thanks!" He said a tad quieter. To calm him down I rubbed his shoulder and gave him a smile.
"How about we go hit the showers then go get some breakfast?" Warren asked with one of his infamous genuine smiles. "Sounds good to me!" I replied, my stomach growling furiously in agreement. Warren laughed. He got up, lent me a hand, and pulled me up. We grabbed some water bottles from the cafeteria on the way to the showers, talking and laughing all the way to my room before we went our separate ways for about 15 minutes or so to take our showers, holding hands along the way.
As I showered I kept thinking about all the grins, smiles, and times we blushed. I kept thinking about the times he opened and closed his wings and called me "Angel". I especially kept thinking about the times we spent hugging each other tightly and holding hands. With that, a truly happy and content smile spread on my face. I got dressed in an old concert tee, a pair of black leggings, and some flip- flops. I didn't wash my hair that day since I already washed it earlier yesterday morning and I didn't need to wash it just yet. I let my curls out of the lazy bun that I had them in during training, gave it a good shake, and re-positioned them.
As I was walking down the hall back towards my room I saw Warren hanging outside the door, smiling once he saw me. He wore on of my grey graphic tees ( a Garfield one that I haven't seen for ages), the same black ripped up jeans that he wore in the warehouse, some white slip-on vans that were stowed away in the back of my closet, and his black leather jacket to complete the look. As we started walking to the cafeteria Warren held my hand. I closed my eyes and smiled. At that moment, I felt that everything was going to be alright with Warren by my side. I felt my breath and heart rate start to relax.
We reached the cafeteria and saw the others at one of the tables. Warren and I grabbed some breakfast and sat down next to them. As I sat down I saw a nervous look on his face, but even before I saw his face I could tell he was nervous about sitting with the other X-men since he was opening and closing his wings. Under the table I held his hand tightly, being careful not to crush it with my strength, to try and comfort him. He turned to look at me and smiled, grasping our hands tighter. I couldn't help smiling the biggest smile in response.
"So guys," Jean said looking at all of us, especially me and Warren, while eating a breakfast burrito. I suddenly shook my head, getting myself out of my own thoughts. "I was thinking about the fact that we haven't been out on a fun day in a while, so Scott and I were thinking about going to the movies. What do you guys think?" She asked us. Me, Warren, Jubilee, Kurt (Who now looked slightly bruised from Warren's fight the other day) looked at each other, smiled, turned to Jean and Scott, and nodded firm yeses. "Okay, perfect! I know we all have lessons today, so I think the best option would be to do it tomorrow. That way we have time to hang out at the mall afterwords." Jean responded. Everyone nodded in agreement. I saw that Warren was scratching his chin. "That sounds like a lot of fun! I'd love to join in." Warren said now looking at everyone with one of his big caring smiles. Jean and Scott smiled in response. "Phew," I thought, "It looks like they are all finally getting along with Warren". To that, I looked at him and smiled.
Warren's P.O.V
"Oh shoot!" Cassidy said while looking up at the clock with a look of panic on her face after just taking a bite of her meal. "Speaking of today's lessons, my first one starts in about 15 minutes!" I suddenly realized that being a student and an x-men here meant that I needed to go to lessons and learn along with them. I remembered hearing Professor X say that Cassidy was supposed to be my guide for the first few weeks that I was living there, with that I perked my face into a smile as an idea popped into my head. What if I went to Cassidy's lessons? "Hey Angel..." I whispered into her ear, so that way nobody could hear, "Hmm?" She responding quickly looking up at me. I saw a little blushing on her cheeks."I was thinking, maybe I could go with you to your lessons , at least for now? The Professor never gave me a set class schedule and he told me you were my guide for the next few weeks." I looked at her with a hopeful smile, hoping this would work. Her face suddenly beamed in excitement and she did a firm nod. "Of course! My lessons are boring anyway, so it'd be perfect to be able to see a familiar face in class!" Under the table, she held my hand and interlocked her fingers into mine, and I held her hand tight, as to not let this go. I nodded in response with a smile still glued onto my face.
"Are you sure about that Cassidy? You don't know how the professor will react. And besides, Warren was a horseman. Can we even trust him to be in the same classrooms with us? He's just a killing machine."Kurt said, turning his head to give me a stare that I promptly returned. I squinted my eyes closed at 'he's just a killing machine'. No one messed with me and Cassidy, not on my watch. Kurt was someone I needed to look out for. I could easily tell that he had feelings for Cassidy, and I was pretty sure everyone else did too. They just didn't admit it, especially since Cassidy started taking care of me. I could tell Kurt had feelings because part of cage fighting meant that you had to quickly be able to interpret what your opponent felt and use their emotions to scare them in whatever way possible. I saw Cassidy's face sink and turn into a sort of a frown after what Kurt said. "Really Kurt? I know Warren hurt you before in the cage fight and during the fight the other day but that was because that's how he was raised for cage fights. He was trained to not trust anybody. Also, he's probably protective of Cassidy ever since she offered him a place here and saved him from that hellhole and thought you were going to harm her. She must've been the best thing that happened to him in years. Besides, it would be nice to have a familiar face in a new class." Scott said, then turning to give me a nod. I smiled a huge smile at Scott and nodded in response. "At least Scott gets me and doesn't think I'm a threat," I thought. Jean and Jubilee nodded in agreement with Scott. I don't know if they caught it, but I smiled at them too. It was nice to know that there was people who looked out for me, especially Cassidy.
About ten minutes later I was walking with Cassidy to our first class together. Funny enough, it was a history class led by Professor X himself. We were the last people to arrive in the classroom just before the bell rang. Professor X noticed Zoe and I walk in, and then turned his head to look at me. We both acknowledged each others presence and nodded. Cassidy and I took seats right next to one another in the back of the classroom, since those were the only available seats in the room. "Okay everybody please take your seats and have your eyes glued to the front, we have a new student who will be in our class for the rest of the year " He gestured towards me to stand up and come to the front to introduce myself. I glanced at Zoe as I got out of my seat. She looked at me encouragingly with a goofy smile and gave me two thumbs up. I chuckled quietly, shaking my head. Cassidy could be funny when she needed to be.
I went up to the front of the class, turned around, and opened my wings as a demonstration of my mutation. I heard the other students awe in response. "Hey guys, my name is Warren, but my friends call me Angel." I smiled, trying to show that I wasn't a threat, "I am originally from England and New York , but I recently came here from Germany to live with you guys." With that, Professor X nodded and gestured me to walk back to my seat. I closed my wings, turned my head to look at him and nodded in response. With that the rest of the day's lessons went by relatively quickly.
At the end of the day, Cassidy and I stopped by the cafeteria to grab some donuts to munch on while we were doing our homework.
I walked in the room and sat on the beanbag chair that was by her desk, devouring my doughnut as I looked with Cassidy, now in her desk chair, up at the stickers on her ceiling. She was munching on her doughnut a little bit slower than I was.
"Angel," I said. "Hmm?" she said in response, " I have something I've been needing to tell you for a little while." I said, both us us now looking into each others eyes, not breaking eye contact. I started to blush and my wings opened and closed.
