I woke up the next morning to the smell of pancakes.
"What the hell?" I mumbled, wondering where I was. I rolled over, groggily remembering the flight to London yesterday.
I turned to see Dan and Phil huddled over the stove. I walked towards them, rubbing my neck.
"What are you guys doing?" I mumbled.
"Ah! You're awake!" Dan grinned.
"We're making you welcome pancakes!" Phil motioned towards the disaster the kitchen had become.
"Aw, thank you guys" I grinned, hugging them both.
I laughed as I watched them pour the batter into the pan.
"I wanna flip this time!" Dan insisted, grabbing the pan.
"Dan, no! You're terrible at flipping!" Phil tried to snatch the pan away from him but failed. Dan stared down at the pan. He lunged and threw the pancake into the air.
It hit the ceiling.
It was stuck.
"Oh shit" Dan and I mumble, almost simultaneously.
"Oh no!" Phil cried, staring glumly at the pancake on the ceiling.
"Wait!" Dan shouted, running out of the room, returning a few moments later with his camera.
"This needs to be documented"
Dan smiles and turns on his camera.
"Hello Internet! Well.. Phil and I decided to make pancakes to welcome Maddie..." He zoomed in on my face.
"It went horribly wrong!" Phil interjected, pointing up to the ceiling.
"No it didn't! I was just so good at flipping pancakes that gravity couldn't handle it" He turned the camera to the ceiling, filming the still-stuck pancake.
"Wait!" Phil said excitedly. "I have a plan!"
Dan and I both raised an eyebrow, questioningly.
"Okay" Phil explained, "Dan, stand over here" He pulled Dan over by the counter and took his camera, turning it to me. "Okay now, Maddie, I need you to stand on the counter"
"What?" I yelped.
"It'll work, don't worry" Phil said confidently.
"Alrighty..." I jumped up onto the counter and stood up, shakily.
"Now, Maddie, get on Dan's shoulders"
"Oh Phillllll.." I said, whining.
"It's going to work!"
"I don't want to kill Dan!" I moaned, smiling at Dan.
"I can hold you! Don't worry!" Dan grinned back at me.
"Oh god" I groaned, climbing onto Dan's shoulders as Phil filmed the two of us.
"Shit shit shit shit" I mutter as I grab Dan's shoulders as he holds onto my legs. As I'm worrying for my life, Phil is giggling in the corner of the kitchen, zooming in on the two of us.
"Fuck you!" I reach over towards Phil and flip the camera off.
Phil continued his laughing fit as I peel the pancake off of the ceiling and it lands on the floor with a smack.
"Well, now that's done with" I sigh as Dan helps me down.
"Shit, do you guys smell that?" Dan looks at me and Phil.
"Oh fuck!" I shout as I realise that the pancakes the two of them left on the stove had burnt.
"No no no no!" Phil tries to desperately salvage the pancakes but it's too late.
"We always have cereal?" Dan sighs as he pulls out the Shreddies.
The three of us sat on the couch, watching Death Note with our bowls of cereal.
"I really wanted you to have a special breakfast!" Phil pouts.
"Oh come on, guys. Cereal is delicious!"
Dan chuckles and pulls me close to him. I lean into him and smile to myself.
I think living with them is going to work out just fine.
