"Did you hear?"
"What?"
"That girl was seen with Sasuke at the gym!" A shrill voice whispered not-so quietly. The sharp gasp of dubiety followed her statement.
"You're kidding! Her? Are you sure?" The other girl asked, looking at her up and down with disgust and jealousy.
"Yeah, I'm totally sure!" The shrill girl said, nodding her head.
As (y/n) walked down the hallways of Konoha Academy, hugging her binders close to her chest, her ears were burning as girls talked about her. Sasuke was the gem among the boring rocks at school, so it wasn't strange to see people gossiping about him. What tripped (y/n)'s alarms, however, was that they mentioned her, pointing at her with their brightly-painted, jewel-encrusted nails.
Mutters soon turned into shouts in (y/n)'s head. She didn't appreciate all the negative attention directed to her; she didn't know how to handle it either. For the first time in her high school career, she was the center of the latest drama. Knowing that the gossip included Sasuke, the (h/c)-haired girl expected it to last for nearly a month-- she wished she was exaggerating.
It sucked because she woke up in a great mood; she did a few sit-ups and push-ups before taking a refreshing shower. (y/n) did all her homework the night before. It was like she was an excited, oblivious freshman again. She had a surge of confidence, ready to take on the day.
"I don't blame him! Just look at her!" A boy her age ogled, staring at everything but her face. She felt objectified while under the stares of her peers. Can't I just walk to class in peace, (y/n) thought, the grip on her notebooks and binder tightening.
Backpacks weren't allowed to be worn during school hours, meaning that students had to carry their belongings by hand from class to class. She already put her bag in her confined locker and was headed to her homeroom before she was stopped by one of the popular girls in her year.
Ah, yes. It was the infamous Ino Yamanaka-- the daughter of successful florists. She was well-known in other schools in the area as well. She often goes to college parties, concerts, and clubs that should do better at checking ID's. (y/n) tried walking around her, but one of Ino's friends stepped in front of her. "Hey, (y/n)," Ino said, too joyfully to be considered normal.
"I heard some nasty rumors about you," She went on passive-aggressively. Then, putting a threatening -but disguised as comforting- hand on (y/n)'s shoulder, she said, "If you're going through something, you can always talk to us." The blonde almost started laughing mid-sentence.
"Thanks, I guess. I'll keep that in mind," (y/n) replied without any expression. She attempted to stroll pass them once again.
"You should stay away from Sasuke," Ino started, (y/n) stopped in her tracks. "He couldn't ever like someone with a gut. Personally, I don't think it's ladylike to look like... well, you." Her and her friends snickered when (y/n)'s tense shoulders dropped. "But you do you, boo~"
Sasuke was watching from afar, wondering what (y/n) was going to do. She always seemed like a submissive lamb, especially when there were three girls against her. He was ready to step in or comfort his crush at any given moment. However, he needed to see how (y/n) would react.
"Ino, grow up," (y/n) said lowly, not facing them. Tears brimmed her (e/c) hues, her bangs covered them up. She stared at the ground, focused on having a clear voice, one that won't break. "Boys like girls with meat on their bones," She said, using what Shikamaru once said in verbatim. It contradicted (y/n)'s beliefs when it came to her body, but she found every girl beautiful-- no matter the shape or size. Their uniqueness was something she lacked, (y/n) felt.
"Yeah, probably the weird, nerdy ones!" One of Ino's cake-faced buffoons cackled. "Isn't that right, Ino-Pig?" It was obvious she lacked any sort of filter and brain cells.
"Be quiet," Ino seethed, her glare burning through the girl. "I'm sorry, but who asked? Like, I literally never heard anyone say that... Like, ever," Ino said, picking dirt from her acrylic nails
(y/n) would by lying if she said that Ino didn't have the ideal body type-- good-sized chest, flat stomach, medium butt. She wasn't going to tell the Yamanaka that; it would only boost her already-inflated ego.
"Instead of trying to look older to get college guys, why don't you get your degree first? Oh wait, I don't think colleges except pigs," (y/n) blurted out. She didn't mean to say that, but she also didn't regret say it.
"How about, instead of running your mouth, you run on a treadmill," Ino retorted, giving (y/n) the Debby Ryan smirk. Taken aback, (y/n) was speechless, not expecting Ino to insult her back. It was a petty fight over nothing, yet she was determined to show all of Konoha Academy that she is not a force to be reckoned with. "What? Cat got your tongue-"
"What makes you think Sasuke would like you?" (y/n) cut her off, a tendency that developed just recently. She turned to face the trio with dry eyes.
"Have you seen me? I would be surprised if I wasn't his type 'cause I'm everyone's type," Ino said, gesturing at all their peers who stared at the girls, listening in on their argument. It was one of the first times they've seen (y/n) in a fight since she likes to stay on the down-low.
"You've been chasing him since you were five, but he's never shown interest," (y/n) stated, stepping forward as a challenge. "Personally," She said, mocking the long-haired pig in front of her. "I don't think that harassing a guy -that doesn't like you- is ladylike. How about you stop fawning over Sasuke and start worrying about your grades before your IQ drops any lower."
(y/n) was huffing, brows furrowed as she stared at Ino's shocked look. The other two girls glanced at the self-proclaimed queen bee, wondering what to do. Without Ino telling them what to do, they were clueless and dimwitted.
Ino didn't respond but her mouth was open. "D*MN!" Kiba yelled from across the hall, laughing afterwards. Sasuke was mentally cheering (y/n) on, planning on congratulating her later-- by teasing her, of course. Still in over her head, Ino started to spit out incoherent words.
The (h/c)-ette made a tch sound when she sucked on her teeth, hiding her smug grin. There was no referee, but everyone who was engrossed in the catty insult-fest between (y/n) and Ino knew that (y/n) was victorious.
It was unusual to see Ino pipe down or get her way. It gave every girl that was bullied by her and her clique a sense of establishment. They grinned along side of (y/n), maybe the (e/c)-eyed girl spoke too soon; it was going to be a great day.
