(y/n) hissed in pain, the rough bark on the tree scratching against her exposed calf. Peering over the roof of the house, she could see faint silhouette of a man with three or four dogs tugging on neon-fabric leashes. The small scratches decorating her leg were not enough to distract her from her act of defiance. She had to thank the fight with her mother's husband because it created a spark of independence, and the new-found thrill of sneaking out fueled it to create a growing fire. She certainly wasn't going to let a/n (l/n)-wannabe tell her what to do, it was against what her father taught her.

Carefully jumping from a sturdy branch, she dove head first into a patch of grass. Tuck-and-rolling, she landed without major wounds and Minato hearing her. His sleek, navy car was still parked in the driveway instead of inside the house's garage. Weirdo, she mocked inside her head, though a part of her wanted to say it to his face.

The only shoes she could get a hold of were a pair of shin-high, forest green ninja slippers her older cousin gifted her as a hand-me-down. The shoes collected dust inside box with a masking tape label. "IN CASE OF EMERGENCIES," Was written in bold red ink that reeked of sharpie. It was meant to be used if the house ever caught on fire or a sudden invasion, but -it may not be a life threatening situation- no one had to know.

(y/n) glanced inside the kitchen window one last time, just to make sure the coast was clear before exiting the backyard. She strode towards a waiting Kakashi and his furry entourage, her pace in between walking speed and full-on running, checking every which way to ensure that Minato wasn't aware of her absence.

The silverette's ears perked up upon hearing footsteps steadily trudging towards him. Looking up from his phone -he was watching some sort of movie displaying a two-story with a navy car parked in front- his face formed a clothed smile. "There you are," He sighed out, thankful that she didn't talk herself out of meeting him.

"Hey," She panted, not from tiredness but from excitement. (y/n) nearly opened her arms to greet him with an embrace out of instinct; she thought it over, and her almost-outstretched arms snapped back to her side.

(y/n) hoped that he didn't see her attempt to hug him. If he did, he didn't acknowledge it, brushing past it.

"Let's go," Kakashi said, shifting four leashes to one hand then his other -now free- extended towards her, palm facing up. Her eyes darted around them, looking for anything that might belong to him.

"What did you drop?" (y/n) asked, brushing her hair behind her ear as she continued to stare at the tan sidewalk.

"No, silly. I want you to hold my hand," He replied lightheartedly, barks of confirmation following.

"Oh, o-okay," She said, putting her hand inside of his sheepishly. His fingers interlocked with hers, it felt almost like they were a couple going on a date. As they started to walk, tugs from the dogs constantly pulled Kakashi forward, backwards, or to the side. "I can walk a few of the dogs for you, if you want."

Blissfully, Kakashi slid two leashes out of his steel grip, giving them to (y/n). Out of the bunch, the two dogs were the smallest, a pug and a collie strutted beside the girl, occasionally distracted by the passing scenery. Kakashi, on the other hand, led a spiked-collar-wearing blue shar pei and a full-grown bulldog-- their collars were tarnished, dirty, and almost chewed through.
