Hakeem:
As soon as I leave the building I call up my best friend Cameron. The phone rings for a couple of seconds. This idiot is probably hung over, deaf or just ignoring my calls.
"Come on, pick up you idiot."
And yet again the voicemail is the one that answers me. I send him a quick text telling him to call me as soon as he gets this "IT'S AN EMERGENCY" since that's the only way I'll get his attention. I really need to let loose before I start this job. And the only way to do that is a party.
As I'm driving I stop at the traffic lights and look at the car next to me. I notice this girl. She's kinda pretty but not really my type. As I'm staring she turns and locks eyes with me.
I feel as if I've seen her somewhere before. She then mouths the words "what" and I just look away instead, not to mention the car behind me that was honking non-stop. I speed home and open the front door, my mom is the first person I see. JUST GREAT.
"Hi sweety, how did the interview go?"
"It was good mom, I start on Monday. But if you'll excuse me I'm really tired."
"You can't keep avoiding us Hakeem, eat dinner with us and tell us how it went."
"I've already ate and I'll tell you how it went tomorrow. Goodnight."
Before you judge me or think I'm an ass. I have my reasons for giving them the cold shoulder. Both my parents are constantly pressuring me to get a good job, a wife and have kids. I think I'm still young and got a whole lot of partying to do. There's no rush to do things the way they did. And because we see everything so differently, we constantly bump heads.
As I get to my room my phone rings and its Cameron.
"It took you long enough Cam."
"Whatever, you only texted me a few minutes ago anyway."I glance at my room clock.
"I called you half an hour ago not a few minutes ago, there's a difference dummie."
"Whatever...what's the emergency?"
"We need to throw a party."
"Keem...you're not serious right?"
"What do you mean, of course I am."
"You disrespected my sleep to call me up for some stupid party?"
"I thought you'd be happier come on there's plenty of time for that. Think about it girls, drinks, food, music and a good time."
"Your parents are going to kill us. But you got me at food. When is this party exactly?" I knew I'd get him with those words.
"Saturday night at your place, no buts. I'll see you Saturday bro." And I end the call before he has a chance to argue.
Finally what I've been wanting for weeks now. To get away from my parents, down a couple of drinks and have some fun.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Khadija:
I'm leaving the office and I see Jacob approaching me again. I cannot risk another convo like the one from earlier. So I speeden up my pace to the elevator and press the ground button like a maniac. I can hear him calling after me but I completely ignore him and the elevator doors shut. I walk out of the building into the warm autumn fall. I'm driving in my car and I stop at the traffic lights. I have this weird sense that somebody is watching me, and that's when I turn to the side. I catch this cute guy staring at me for a few seconds and I stare at him.
"What?" I mouth at him angrily.
But he just completely ignores me and drives away. I swear guys are getting weirder by the day.
I finally arrive home and am surprised when I see my father sitting in the lounge. We lock eyes for a brief second before he turns back to his laptop. I finally break the silence.
"Good evening Dad, how was your day?"
He looks at me intently.
"Normal."
And he simply walks past me into his study and shuts the door. You're probably wondering why the uneasiness between the two of us. Well it's quite simple. Dad wanted a son, he obviously got me. The marriage between my parents got kinda unstable, they had a messy divorce and I was forced to choose who I wanted to be with. I picked my dad only because I knew I'd get much more freedom with him than with my mom. My dad never wanted me but he was forced to stick with me, which is why he is the way he is.
We never really talk much anymore just a few words here and there over dinner. I'm used to it though. I walk up to my room and receive a email from my boss stating that I have extra work for the weekend. I collapse on my bed and stay staring at the ceiling, drowning in my thoughts for a while. I decide to take a shower and to let the water wash away my worries instead.
As I begin to finally relax a little I feel this sharp pain in my lower abdomen. I look down and there's a few drops of blood. Great...my period.
As if my life can't get any worse.
