Sometimes Vernon forget things.

Sometimes he forgets names.

Sometimes he forgets faces.

Sometimes he forgets people.

Ever since Vernon was a little boy, he had always forgotten things. It never seemed like a big deal. He was so young his mind was constantly developing.

Vernon was a growing boy. So of course he needed to make room in his brain for much more important memories. So as any normal person would, Vernon erased some memories he deemed to be useless or troublesome.

But of course he couldn't do this on his own.

"Candy?"  His nanny offered, she put out her hand to him with a wide grin.

Vernon nodded and took the candy from her palm. A nice treat after digging holes in the yard.

He pushed it in his mouth and swallowed it whole.

Vernon knew not to chew the candy. This type of Candy was not meant for teeth. It was made for the stomach and the mind.

It was to help him stay him.

To stay calm.

To forget.

"Now the Mr and Mrs will be home soon, you should head back inside and take your nap now," The nanny said with a smile so stiff, it would to seem to the looker that she had a mask on.

"I'm not tired," the twelve year old said as he crossed his arms, "can't I stay out for longer?"

"You know that's not allowed," Nanny said, her head tilted at Vernon.

Vernon stared up at the Nanny. His eyes black like tar.

He saw an image of her. The same image he'd see every time she'd rejected his request. It painted a beautiful picture in his mind.

Nanny hung up there. Her feet in the air. Her body a beautiful deep purple.

Nanny was pretty that way Vernon always thought.

He liked that image for Nanny. It reminded him of something he saw once before.

Instead it wasn't Nanny it was someone else. A much slimmer looking lady, her face just like his. She was beautiful too.

It was too bad Vernon couldn't quite remember who she was. He liked to believe that she was someone that was once important to him.

But she wasn't. She was nothing to him. Nothing to him now.

"Come on now Vernon, back inside."

"Okay."
