-----THE NEXT DAY-----

The following morning surrounded strategy, we needed to prepare for the upcoming fight and I feared my role being a useless one. My newborn strength being nothing against an army of thousands...My fears only grew with Edwards shared thoughts, "Aro will want us incapacitated before he attacks. Jane and Alec will try an take me out first because I can anticipate their moves."

"Too bad we don't all have your shield," Garrett complained.

"Doesn't help me fight, though," I grumbled, feeling more and more useless with the reminder.

"No, but you could help the rest of us, if you could project it," Tanya pointed out.

I frowned, glancing at the blonde with a wide-eyes expression--"What do you mean?"

"I mean shield someone other than yourself--"

"Is this even possible?"

"Gifts can be developed, over time..." Carlisle shared.

"At first, mine was just in my palms." Kate chimed in, "Now I can radiate it all over my body."

"How do you do it?" She scoffed, I gripped her hand--"Tell me," my order was firm, seeming to demonstrate my determination and convinced her to help me. I knew it would take time and effort, but if I could somehow protect all those I loved and all those who were willing to help my family, nothing would stop me...

"You need to visualize it...See how it moves...What color it is..." I didn't really understand her directions as we stood in another opening in the vast woodland, still close to home, but also encased in nature. I'd only just learned I had a shield, I didn't know how it worked, or why I somehow had use of it before ever turning--before ever learning of vampires...I tried to find that mental block--the clear wall trapping the gut instinct I'd been painfully reliant on before I turned but had now been stolen from me. Maybe unlocking the projection of my shield would also unlock what my body was hiding from me..."Now picture it expanding...Will it to go beyond you..." A pained wailing reached my thoughts, and I thought I'd found the right thing, straining my focus and actually feeling as though my body expanded. But all too soon I released a heavy breath of exhaustion, "I think she needs something to motivate her..."

Edward took a hesitant step forward--"No," I refused.

"It's all right, I can take it," he tried to assure.

"He says that now(!)" Garrett grumbled.

"Focus, Bella, or he's gonna be hurting."

Emmett's words were no additional help, only increasing my nerves and doubts--"Edward, i'm not ready to do this yet--" The crackling of her palm forced him to collapse to his knees in pain, glancing back at me with a 'what just happened' look. "I'm sorry. I said that I wasn't ready," I defended.

"Dude, you're not motivating her--"

"You wanna try(?)" Edward snapped at his adoptive brother, Emmetts hands raising in a defensive stance.

I took a breath, staring at the ground and crumpling my brows as I concentrated, feeling that same wave of expansion before Edwards pained groans from Kates crackling distracted me--pulling me away from the progress completely, "Kate!"

"You seem to lack incentive...Shall I go see if Renesmee's awake(?)--"

"Are you crazy?!" I growled with a heavy glare.
