-----A FEW DAYS LATER-----

I huddled close with Renesmee in our small make-shift tent pitched up in the middle of the woods at the dead of night, all vampires gathered around the campfire and sharing stories of war and battles while the wolves decided on joining us tomorrow morning...I pulled a gift from my pocket, offering Renesmee the locket and opening it to reveal an inscription on one side and an image of Edward and me on the other...

"This means, 'More than my own life.' That's how much I love you..." She looked up at me through her lashes, offering the sweetest of smiles. But that quickly sank, the sight of my serious fear and doubt forcing her lower lip to wobble..."Tomorrow I'm gonna need you to stay with, Jacob. No matter what. Even if I tell him that--...that he has to take you somewhere..." Her eyes began to water, "Hey. Baby, it's all right." I forced her against my body, her arms latching around me as I cradled her back and forth..."You're gonna be safe...Always..."

-----THE NEXT DAY-----

I couldn't really focus on anyone else around me, I didn't really want to as I gripped Renesmee's hand for dear life and watched a horde of black cloaks walk from the fog, standing opposite to us in their own line of witnesses, all foaming at the mouth for a bloodbath..."Aro's looking for Alice," Edward informed our group...

Howls rumbled through the ground, Jacob moving beside me as our defense only grew. The hoards ceasing movements allowing Carlisle the opportunity to move forward, begin a dialogue..."Aro, let us discuss things as we used to. In a civilized manner."

"Fair words, Carlisle...But a little out of place, given the battalion you've assembled against us." Although I could hear him as clear as day, his face easy to pick out with my new and enhanced eyesight, in a sea of black he was still only a short blip presenting an extravagant cloak.

"I can promise you, that was never my intent. No laws have been broken--"

"We see the child," Caius complained. "Do not treat us as fools!"

"She Is Not An Immortal!" his words were not a shout, though Carlisle's volume rose to address all our current enemies. "These witnesses can attest to that...Or you can look. See the flush of human blood in her cheeks--"

"Artifice!"

Aro raised a hand in silence, "I will collect every facet of the truth. But from someone more central to the story...Edward, as the child clings to your newborn mate, I assume you are involved."

He offered Renesmee a smile, myself receiving a small nod that forced my heart to lurch as I watched him walk away. I focused on him intensely, feeling that same separation from myself as Renesmee moved between Jacob and I. My being extended, covering him, protecting him...yet it was all in vain when he outreached my grasp...I didn't hear Aro's response, but the look in Edward's eyes made me worry as myself, Jake and Renesmee started the walk, pausing briefly for Emmett to join our side...

"Ahh...Young Bella...Immortality becomes you..." He focused on Renesmee, staring intently before releasing a burst of manic laughter--"Do I hear her strange heart?" Renesmee glanced up at me for confirmation, all I could offer was a shaky nod of my head and a comforting stroke of her hair before she moved towards Aro.
