FANFIC TIP 02.
—I'll be honest — there's no way for me to completely answer this question entirely, because there were so many different ways to do it with the plethora of fandoms there are out there.
Here is my advice for writing a character into a plot; if you have questions and want me to explain further, another chapter will be created for this purpose.
Do:
— Be creative. No one likes the same plot rewritten twelve times.
— Maybe introduce a subplot for your OC, one that develops their character to give a more in depth look to them. If you want your character to be as developed as the other (canon) ones, you have to give them time and space to grow.
Don't:
— Don't make your character someone else's sibling. We've all done it, but it's a lazy writing tactic; it's a lazy excuse to involve a character in a plot. To me, it's like saying, "the only reason I'm here is because I'm X's sibling." I doubt your character's best quality is being someone's sibling.
— If you're writing a romance, and the character already has a love interest, don't make her/him/them a colossal snot rag— that's a lazy way to get rid of them, and to make your own character look good by comparison. Don't make that love interest hate your OC. Instead, develop your character's own relationship with the love interest as a completely separate entity from the original romance.
— Don't copy another person's fic. Yes, you can take inspiration from it, but taking someone else's plot as your own and claim it's your own idea is plagiarism.

I will probably add to this as I think of more ideas. Until then, thank you and goodnight!
