Chapter 9: The Cost of War

The next day

After the successful victory over the House of Bael the Astaroths, Gremorys, and Gusions are getting much needed rest. Sirzechs along with Mia go and interrogate Sairaorg.

Sirzechs: "I hear that you have decided to join our side."

Sairaorg: "To be honest I always wished that I had stayed with you guys to begin with. It is not exactly easy for the heir of the family to leave though."

Sirzechs: "Well if it is true that you want to join us that would be a great help. However, I need to know that I can trust my allies."

Sairaorg: "I will do whatever I can to gain that trust."

Sirzechs: "We will see if you deserve that chance."

Sirzechs goes around to all of the peerage members of the Sairaorg asking them if they will submit to work with the Gremorys, Gusions, and Astaroths. They all agree. After an hour of interrogating them and hearing answers he was hoping for, Sirzechs turns to Mia. "So Mia have they all been telling the truth." Mia, who has gotten much stronger, replies, "Yes they are loyal to us now. I guarantee to you that they will aid us in the coming battles." Sirzechs says, "Good I am glad to hear it. Having more help is always going to be appreciated. Especially since we still have a long way to go before we will be able to retake the Underworld completely." Sirzechs has the whole Sairaorg peerage freed from prison. When they leave the dungeon it is clear that several of the allies are not too sure about having them around. However, as Sirzechs tells them to accept Sairaorg as an ally they keep their complaints to themselves.

One week later

A messenger arrives from Phenex territory.

Messenger: I bring news of a recent battle. The Belial family has attacked the domain of the Phenex clan. I am sorry to report the death of Ruval Phenex as well as one of his brothers and mother."

Ravel: "Wait what did you just say?"

Messenger: "I am sorry Miss Phenex as of now the only two surviving members of the Phenex clan are yourself and Riser Phenex. Riser has been given command of the Phenex forces and they are on the run."

Ravel, who is in shock: "That cannot be true. There is no way all of my family is dead."

Sirzechs: "I am so sorry Ravel. I wish that we could have been there to help them."

Ravel runs out of the room crying. The whole Gusion peerage follows after her.

Sirzechs: "What is Lord Riser doing now?"

Messenger: "He is currently in hiding. He wants revenge for what happened more than anything else right now."

Ajuka: "So he has not turned against us and joined Hades."

Messenger: "No he definitely is still your ally. I would guess that before too long he will try to attack Diehauser Belial and get revenge for the death of his family."

Rias: "That sounds like him. He is not the brightest and will probably get everyone wiped out if we do nothing."

Sirzechs: "I am not sure that we can really spare the manpower to launch an attack to try and help him."

Ajuka: "I agree that we are rather limited here. However, if we allow him to die and the Phenex clan to be left with Ravel as the sole survivor that will devastate morale. We cannot allow that to happen."

Sirzechs: "So you are saying that even though we don't have the forces to do it, if we don't try and help Riser it will likely end up costing us even more."
