five years past. a lot can happen in five years if you're motivated enough. minho's entire being oozed with determination and longing. naturally he fulfilled his promise to jisung about learning to read and write properly using his newly gifted eyesight. he even went and got a proper driver's license.
though these five years were full of accomplishments and celebration for minho and his friends, they all knew minho missed jisung terribly. minho never told them that he would be coming back. he couldn't risk being taken away for being crazy or something of that manor. that's also the reason he stopped going to all eye appointments. he knew he would be considered a "miracle of science" and be forced to be a lab rat. he couldn't let that happen. he needed to set the stage for his life with jisung. and that's just what he did.
after getting the basics for his life set up, he sold both his and jisung's old apartments and invested his money. he did online college all day and worked all night. in no time he had a two year degree in teaching special education children and though it didn't pay that much, it was a rewarding career.
the school he ended up being assigned to was the same school that him and jisung went to. due to his experience with the blind, his student he was paired with was also blind.
he was a eight year old second grader named jason. he was a sweet kid, a cute one too. he would always be smiling but when he didn't think you were paying attention he looked sad. whenever he would catch jason in this state a weight pressed down on his heart. jason reminded him of himself.
during the time minho spent with jason at school he taught him every coping trick and learning strategy he had ever learned. pretty soon jason went from communication and nagevation skills of a toddler to grades that matched and even exceeded a good portion of his classmates. thanks to minho, jason was able to express his emotions very clearly and he was able to develop a few close friendships.
one day in particular stood out to minho. parent teacher conferences. when jason's parents came in to speak with both minho and jason's home room teacher. as soon as they saw minho they immediately broke down in tears. saying things such as "thank you for believing in him," and "we never knew someone as perfect as you would come and be the stars to his dark night."
minho cried that day too. right infront of the parents.
"you two are wonderful parents. make sure you never leave him or make him feel ashamed in his own home. after jr high my parents always- my friend's parents made him feel like an outcast. i guess they got to a point where they couldn't.. or just didn't want to deal with it anymore. all i- my friend.. had to rely on was his best friend. so please, be there for him."
that night minho laid in his bed and talked to jisung just like every other night, not knowing if jisung could even hear him or not, from up there among the stars, nonetheless he always tried.
"jason's parents came today. they said i have been like the stars to jason's dark night. i'm glad that i've been able to pay forward what you've done for me so many years... the apartment for us is bought now. it's really big and it's on a high floor in a nice apartment building in seoul. it's a nice building and it even has a sound proof room for your music recording. i miss you horribly and i know the day you'll come back is soon. please be safe and happy. i love you so much jisung. come see me soon."
and with that minho rolled over and fell alseep. it was a long day and he felt drained. fulfilled, content, but drained.
little did the sleeping boy know that jisung already knew about the story that minho had just described.
up in the the sky jisung had learned all about the rules of the sky and the how wish granting works. in a way jisung became the granter of wishes. the rules of the sky are complex but what basically what jisung had come to find out is that he now had the authority to decide which wishes that are casted upon the stars are worth granting.
when a person wishes on the brightest star in the sky, jisung can see the outcomes of granting the wish on that persons life and the world by placing his hands on the glass like panel that floated in the abyss of stars with him. when he does this a kind of fast forwarded vision of that persons entire lives flashes through jisung's mind. as this happens, every star like pattern on jisung's body along with his eyes glow a bright white light. this job was tiring but so rewarding. he had done this for countless people. he loved being able to make people's lives better by granting righteous wishes.
a thought that never failed to make jisung tear up was someone had to have granted the wish that he and minho made under the stars all those years ago. just two little preschool boys were giving the opportunity to go down a path that gave minho his vision back.
every day after jisung finished with his wish granting, he always checked up on minho to see what he was doing. jisung saw how he interacted with jason as if he was his own kid or best friend.
"minho would make such a good dad.."
he also saw how much better minho's relationship with their friends got, it warmed his heart to see him dancing along with hyunjin and smiling at changbin's stupid jokes.
every day jisung counted down the days until he would be allowed to go back to his boy. he only had eight days left. it didn't seem like they could possibly crawl by any slower.
"just you wait min, i'm going to hug you so tight you'll see stars."
