Even If I Can't Love You

Chapter 6

"Alex Morgan," was all Ali had to say before squirming out of her friends' grip and walking out of their room.

She went back to her own dorm room only to find her roommate and her roommate's new lover gone. Figuring they went back to Alex's dorm to do who knows what, she finally has the privacy to call her brother.

"What's the deal with Ashlyn," Kyle says once he answers the phone.

"She's dating one of our teammates, Kyle. Well, I don't know what they are, but I walked in on them making out in my room. I don't know what to do. I just need some brotherly advice right now."

Kissing Alex just feels weird. She doesn't even really like the girl as more than a friend. All she wants is to date her best friend, but Ashlyn can't afford to lose their friendship when they're already super close. The two act like a couple, but Ashlyn doesn't know if they could keep up the act when Ashlyn is dating another girl, let alone a teammate.

Ash wanted to make Ali jealous and she certainly did. She overheard her phone calls. She knows Ali walked in on her and Alex kissing. At night, Ali sometime tells Ashlyn about all the different guys she likes. There's this one guy, Servando Carrasco, that Ali talks about all the time. 

Ashlyn can tell Ali doesn't really like him, and just wants someone to like her and be with.

Ali can't help but jump on Ashlyn after Servando asks her out one day. She can tell that her best friend is just pretending to be happy for her. It doesn't matter who the person is, she's just happy she has a date. Sha hasn't been on one since her junior year of high school.

Ali stays up all night wondering what her date tomorrow will be like. She can't help but think about her future. All she sees is herself. Alone, with just a dog. 

She tries to picture her future again. She still sees herself. She still sees a dog. But now she sees Ashlyn.
