Shit. I thought this up on the interstate. I don't really have a plan. I look over at her. She's asleep.
For the record, this is so fucking self-destructive. For the record: I'm fucking aware of that okay?
I didn't plan this. I didn't think this through. What the hell. I'm a convicted felon. And this is her now deceased husbands car. And I'm carrying. And she's a hostage, who was apart my take down.
I'm screwed.
I go four miles over the fucking speed limit and I'm back in prison.
No. Things can still go my way. They always do. I just need to revise. I didn't expect her come so peacefully.
I sigh. "What to do. Ditch this damn car. Get out of the country for a little while."
Her eyes opened gently. She looked up at me. "Roy?"
I smile. "Morning, baby."
"Where are we going?"
I shake my head. "Away, baby. Just away."
I should be angry at her. I'm sure I should. I'm not. I just want to get comfortable terrorizing a city. That's all. That's my next goal.
It's peaceful. She's in and out of sleep. I keep picturing her. Draped i. The backseat blood spilling from her lips. Don't know if I want it to be reality.
But once I kill her that's it. I can do a lot of things, but I can only kill her once. I glance over at her. She smiled.
And I don't wanna kill her yet.
It's now or never. Whatever the hell I'm gonna do.
"I'm hungry," she whispers.
I rub her cheek. "Are you now?"
She nodded. It's stupid, that I still trust her.
"Well, we have to get out of this place first. A few more miles, "
"I didn't bring my wallet," she said, "but I brought this," she shoes me her knife.
I smirk. "Well then sweetheart. It seems like you have some hunting do. I can't not here. I'll let you loose in a neighborhood a little out of town."
I pull over in a gas station. I rummage in the car finding a hat. I grab the knife cutting out two holes, putting it over her face.
"No more than 1000, do you hear me? We don't need grand larceny on our case."
She nodded, as I put the gun in her hand. "Note the cameras and avoid them. You don't want them to see you. Not the way you walk, not a strand of hair."
She nods. I kiss her head. "Go. In and out, 15. If they pull out a bigger gun, kill them. Don't step in any blood. Don't take any merchandise. Just money."
She smiles. "I've never robbed a gas station."
I shrug. "Not se fun as you think. Go, while it's empty."
She heads out, storming into the gas station. I probably should trust her with a gun so soon. But...
I watch her, and our surroundings. I'm out of range right now, but when she comes out, they'll catch sight of us. I should ditch the license plate. But no, because then they might pull us over.
I hear a shot. Damn it. Damn it. Maybe she wasn't ready maybe she—
She steps out, glancing around, and then walking calmly to the car.
I smile. That's it. Glide. Don't panic. Act like you just paid for gas, and that's it.
She gets in the car and I start it, she goes to take off her mask.
I keep it over her face. "Rookie mistake. Wait until you're out of range first."
She smiled. "I did it, Roy. He only had 800 though."
"Perfect. That'll hold us, for a little bit. You did good. Is he dead?"
She shook her head. "No. No. I just needed to scare him."
"Death scares people," I remind her.
She takes the makeshift mask off. I swallow. "You did good, baby. First robbery. I'm proud."
She grins. I give her a kiss.
She squeals in delight, putting her hands out of the window, laughing with pure joy.
I chuckle. Holy fuck.
It's now or never. No, it's now and never. This is the best day of my life.
"Did you see me?"
"I saw you baby, you did so good."
"I feel so free!"
I merge on the interstate while she laughs out the window.
I glance at her, her hair floating on air as we drive down the interstate.
I smile. It feels like we're flying. Is this...happiness? Maybe I'm excited? I don't know. It feels like...flying but I could also be dying.
"Hey, Dawn?"
She looked at me. "Yeah?"
"Let's get married."
"Okay."
