We drive down the city. We've decided a city now, where we're going to settle down. I look over at her. She's pretty quiet.
I take her hand. "You'll see baby. Everything is going to be wonderful."
She says nothing as usual. Normally that would irritate me, but after the incident, I've decided that I probably shouldn't antagonize her.
So she's been silent for a few days.
Finally she speaks. "Are we still getting married?" She asks.
I smile. "Of fucking course. It's you and me baby."
She smiled. "Do you love me?"
Something inside me goes cold. "Yes. Of course."
She just smiled looking ahead. "I love you too Roy. I trust you with my life."
I swallow. "Oh?"
She grins. "I'm so glad I met you! You took me from my parents and you taught me to live."
I smile. I did didn't I? I taught her to be a villain.
"Yeah I did. Who needed them anyway? They used you. And abused you."
She rolls the window down, putting on her red lipstick.
"I feel free." She states.
I sigh in relief. "Oh I'm glad. But you're looking a little pale."
She just sighs. "It's just a little less sunny this way. Once we settle I'm sure I'll feel better."
I nod, "Yeah. Yeah that sounds good."
I rented us an apartment for now. We go inside, and start making plans. Then we go out on our first night on the city.
We terrorize the people. They seem especially afraid for some reason. Maybe these people don't get a lot of crime their way.
We sit in the car after a heist.
She counts the money as usual.
"Hey, Roy?" She asks.
I look at her. "What?"
"Is it...hard to breathe, to you?"
I frown, pausing. "What?"
She suddenly puts her hands to her throat. "I can't breathe."
I look down and something blurs my vision for a moment. Something wet slides down my face. I look back up at her.
She's blue and stiff and cold to the touch. The marks around her neck are still there. She doesn't move or speak at all. She's in just my shirt, but it doesn't fit her the same as it did a few days ago.
I smile, wiping the liquid from my face.
"I love you."
