When I Dream

I thought that I was dreaming out loud, I swear it. We were right there; I mean, our interview was in that newspaper we were reading. Exactly, what we could read was what Drew had said just after the trial. This is what was written in that newspaper:

17-years-old young adults want to "change" the world.

Drew Welsh and Anna Filkins, 17-years-old students, talked to us and told us what they want to do.

Mr. Welsh, who recently received a shot and almost lost his life in Boulder's high school last week, talked to us to tell us about the rumors that have been around for the last week, that say that he and his friend are trying to change the world. This is what he told us:

"We don't want to change the world; we are going to change it. We have a plan, we have a manager, all we need is to convince people that this world needs a change, and it is needed fast. We really believe that our idea is the right one to do that" - These are his words, which he told us with a very convinced voice.

All we know is that these teenagers really want to change the world, and we have been told the reasons that leaded them to want to change it. They lost their friend to suicide, and the reason for his suicide was the bullying he was suffering. They could not deal with the fact that the same thing that happened to their friend is also happening to a lot of teenagers and kids out there, and they say that things have gone too far.

Jared Solem heard about their story and contacted them. Once he was convinced by the things these teenagers shared with him, he took the decision to become their manager.

This seems like a deep story, right? Now, they are doing a campaign around different schools, trying to find a school that accepts their idea and tries to use it. Which is their idea? If you want to know that, you can contact with these people in their internet page: www.tryingtochangetheworld.com

That was too much for me. It was too much happiness and excitement for me. We were in that newspaper! The newspaper was of that day, so maybe some people would try to contact us the same way that the other school had contacted us.

All that was awesome.

I honestly had got surprised when Jared told us to come to the school we were in that moment, because he told us that suddenly, and the people in that school were so excited to see us.

What was happening in that moment felt like a dream come true.

After our surprise, we had to explain to all of them what they did not know yet. They all seemed to agree with our idea, which was great. Nevertheless, we still had to wait for the entire faculty to decide.

They did the same way as the other school did: they talked to each other without us in the room, and we had to wait outside for an answer. We were going to be worried for a while again. This time we were thinking differently: for some reason, this time we thought they would not accept our idea, that they would reject it.

-----------------------

After a long wait, the principal appeared.

- We already have an answer for you - said the principal -. We want to try your project, we really do. However, we cannot make it happen if the parents don't accept. For that reason, we have to talk to the parents and you will tell them the same things you told us, in the same way. Try to touch their hearts, and maybe they'll accept. Your meeting with them is on Thursday, good luck. If you need us, don't be afraid of making a call to us.

I could not believe what my ears had just heard. The school was accepting us, and giving us a chance to talk to the parents in order to make it happen. That was our last step, if it worked.

I did not know what the principal had seen in our project, but the fact that mattered to me was that he did, he accepted.

We thanked him and the entire faculty so much, and then we left the room and school. We all were to happy and euphoric. Jared proposed to go celebrate that somehow, so we went to a restaurant to do that.

- Guys, you are so close to get it - started Jared when we were eating in the restaurant eating -. You needed a manager, and here I am: you convinced me. You needed to share your idea: it's on the newspaper. You needed a school to accept your idea: you just got it. You can do this, you can make the parents like your idea. Just, as the principal said, touch their hearts.

- Thank you so much for giving us a chance - said Drew with a smile on his face -.

Jared put his hand on Drew's shoulder, and smiled.

- You guys earned it.

Drew and I were both so happy to think about that; Jared was right though. We would think about that after our small celebration. That was a really happy moment for us. I could not tell who was the happiest, but we all were so happy that that did not even matter.

After our fantastic lunch, in which Jared decided to pay the bill, Jared gave us a lift to our homes. Well, Drew and I were going to be together for a while more before going home. We wanted to be together and celebrate it together. As the couple we had become, we had not have much time for the both of us, and we wanted it.

Our date after lunch was great, and after it, each other went home.

- How was your day, darling? - Asked my mother as soon as I got home.

- It was perfect, mom - I answered her, so happy -. One of the schools we came into, accepted our project, and we have a meeting with the parents of the kids, all we need is them to agree! Also Drew's interview was in a newspaper, and we went with Jared to a restaurant to celebrate it.

- I'm really happy for you! I'm so glad to hear that. - Said my mom with a smile on her face.

My dad and brother were also so happy to hear it, and I told Kathy about all that too, and she was excited to hear that. It was very easy to notice my happiness, even without me telling I was happy. I had a huge smile on my face, and I laughed at any joke, no matter how silly it was.

Only a few days were separating us from our chance to make it true. It was the chance of our lives, and the last thing we could do was miss it. We needed to prepare perfectly what we were going to say and do at that school with the parents. It felt like life or death to us.
