I knocked at the door of Drew's house. I was hoping that he was home when his mother opened the door. "Drew, please, be at home", I said to myself.
Drew's mother had always been nice to me. I liked his family a lot, they were really nice. His mother smiled when she saw me, and I smiled back.
- Hey dear! - She seemed surprised to see me there, but in a good way though - Why are you here sweetie?
- Mrs. Welsh, is Drew home? - I asked her. The whole thing was a long story to tell, and I was not the one supposed to tell Drew's mother what we were planning to do, in case he had not told her.
- Sure he is. .Come on, he's in his bedroom.
I came in. The house was exactly as I last saw it. Everything was as I remembered it.
Drew's house was small, but really nice. Both of his parents lived there. He had an older sister who lived there too. His sister was awesome; she always defended Drew, since they both were kids. She was five years older than him I think. Drew was sixteen around that time, so she was twenty one. If Drew was in trouble, there she was, always. Her name was Marie.
I went to Drew's bedroom. It was, as usually, a huge mess. Drew was lying in his bed with his earphones on, listening to music. He kind of got scared when he saw me. I was not a scary person, but he was not expecting me to be there. It was normal, I appeared out of the blue.
He turned off the music and said hi to me. He smiled; he seemed happy to see me. And so was I.
He asked me why I had come there. It was not like he was bothered that I was there, but, if a friend suddenly comes to your house, you ask why, right?
I first asked him about his health, and his parents' reaction towards his "fight". He told me that, after he explained himself, they only got a bit angry. But more than that they were upset because they knew that what Ethan had said really hurt Drew. As i have told you his sister used to do, she defended him. They all finally understood him, and consoled him. Anyway they also told him that violence is never the answer, to anything. They advised him not to fight again, for the others' sake and for his own sake. That was true; fighting was not a smart thing to do, if you care about yourself.
Drew's injuries were healing by fast, and he was going to come back to the hospital in a day, for the doctor to remove the sutures.
He offered me something to eat. In his house, someone always offered you food if you went there. It was all like: "are you hungry?" "do you want something to eat?", all the time.
- Well - I began talking; I had to talk about what brought me there -. I should tell you why I'm here.
- I'm listening to you - he told me -. You can start.
- I think I have an idea that might work out, but it's really hard - a light appeared in Drew's eyes. It described hope; he looked so happy -.
- I don't care how hard it might be. Whatever that honors James is worth it. Nothing else matters at all.
- Okay. I think the problem is that, since we're young, we aren't taught to do good things as what it is normal to do. We see them as something unusual. Like, we see someone doing something good, and we be like: "wow". And, what needs to change is that people have to learn that it is something to do every day. There is only one way to change that, a really difficult one. Really close to what is considered impossible. Schools need to teach that, but in a way that everyone does good things for others.
- But, Anna - Drew looked me at my eyes -, how can we do that? Do you really think that something like that is even possible?
- I do think so. Nothing is impossible, not while we keep trying and give our best in this. We will do this, somehow, we'll find a way to make it true. But I need your help, Drew. I can't do this on my own. I know about a lot of people that made a difference, being no one, even without any money. We can, Drew, the only thing we have to do it never, ever, ever give up. Isn't this what we want? An almost perfect world.
