Traveling alone for the first time

A poem about the beginning of an adventure I went on last year (2019). ^^

Traveling alone for the first time

At the age of 16 I traveled to Costa Rica
I was all alone but still filled with such euphoria.
Travelling alone to an unknown place!
My mental mind was going to space!

Arriving at the airport and loading my luggage
Bidding my parents goodbye and getting rid of extra baggage
Nervous as ever walking through security
Suddenly feeling a mass of insecurity.

Do I have anything on me that isn't allowed?
What if they think I would throw a bomb in the crowd?
Walking through the detector with my hands up in the air
I receive a compliment that my trousers are very fair.

Immediately my worries are no longer
And my confidence is starting to grow much stronger.
I smile at the guard and say my thanks
Putting in my headphones as I do a happy dance.

I'm so excited I can barely wait
Just waiting for the charts to update.
Finally being able to walk to my gate
I've never been in such a happy and excited state.

Thinking to myself what an adventure this is
And being grateful for the things that led to this.
Taking my seat in the window seat of the plane
Looking out of the window and smiling as it leaves the lane.
