Marauders' Era
Seventh Year:-
The Hogwarts was bustling with excitement. Only two days were left for Halloween and this year, instead of the usual banquet, the Yule Ball will take place. Every approaching moment was anticipated. Even the dress code was worth talking about. It was a masquerade ball after all.
Professor Dumbledore was strolling around the corridor, watching the students engaging in festivities and preparations. Suddenly, out of nowhere, Sirius Black jumped in front of him.
"Professor Dumbledore, there you are. I was looking for you all over." He said with a beaming smile.
Dumbledore replied with the same enthusiasm, "And why is that Mr. Black?"
Before they could say anything else, they saw James running toward them while waving his hands. He stopped right in front of them, put his hands on his knees, and breathed heavily. "Finally....... I found you professor."
Then he saw Sirius and his lips curved into a frown. "Sirius, what the hell are you doing here?'
"The very same that you're doing here." Sirius replied.
"But I saw him first!"
"But I reached him first!"
"Still, I shall get the first opportunity."
"No, me!"
Till now, a lot of people thought it would be good to stay and watch.
"Stop, please." Dumbledore cut in between. Sensing the fight might go longer, he asked in a polite tone, "What do you both want?"
James immediately reached for his hand and said, "Professor Dumbledore, would you like to be my date for the ball!"
"......."
Seeing this, Sirius quickly reached for his other hand and said "Headmaster, will you go to the ball with me?"
"......."
"Ahh, Professor..." James scratched his neck. "Give us some response, will you?"
"Yes Professor, say something." Sirius urged him.
After a moment of surprise, Dumbledore smiled slowly. "I will, but both of you need to give me your reasons for taking me to the ball okay?"
Both of them nodded vigorously. James spoke first.
"Professor, my reason for taking you to the ball is that I just found out that you were a badass Gryffindor in your times."
Dumbledore raised his eyebrows at that. "And what might be Mr. Black's reason?"
Sirius cleared his thought.
"My reason is that your long white beard is as cool as my long black hair."
"......."
Dumbledore was having a hard time controlling his laughter. Of course, these two can come up with the most ridiculous reasons anytime. At last, he settled on a smile.
Finally, he spoke, "Your demands seem to be looking quite reasonable. But......."
He sighed. "I can't go with both of you to the ball."
James and Sirius glanced at each other. Sirius was holding Dumbledore's right hand but was standing on the left while James was holding the left hand and standing on his right.
That put Dumbledore in an awkward criss-cross position. He took both of his hands back and put one on James' shoulder and other on Sirius'.
"Since I can't go with both of you, then you both need to decide whom I'll be going with, Alright?"
He said with a smile which was looking more like a smirk.
