~Maximum Ride's P.O.V.~
The Flock, Solar, and I all stood on the roof of an abandoned house miles away from the town with my mom's house. I turned towards Solar and Rose with my hands resting on my hips. I then pointed over at Rose. "You will be the first to do test one. Show us how well you can fly, Rose."
She nodded her head while unfurling her wings. She pulled her hair into a high ponytail, reminding me of Fang would do with his hair. Then she jumped up while flapping her wings, and she shot towards the sky.
Minutes went by of Rose doing a series of manuvers. The only one who wasn't really fascinated about how she flew was Solar. He just watched his feet while hugging his chest.
As a finale of her demonstration, she tucked in her wings and dived down with her face towards the ground. The more she sped up, the more the spinning motion intensified. Instead of being worried, I was fascinated. Somehow, I knew that she knew what she was going and that she was going to be okay.
Nudge took a step forward in a worried manner, and I rested a hand on her shoulder reassuringly. "It's fine, Nudge," I told her. "She knows what she's doing."
When the ground was a foot and a half away from meeting her face, she extended her wings and swooped up to shoot towards the sky again, reminding me of some kind of angel. With my raptor vision, I could still see the determined expression on her ace, but this time, she had a small smile to go along with the expression.
A minute or so went by before she dropped down, allowing the air to catch her wings. She landed gracefully on the roof without making a sound, and she gave the rest of the bird kids a smile with her eyes closed. "So, how was that?" she asked.
Everyone was in awe. Even Fang's aweness showed for the tiniest second.
"Not bad," I said. "Not bad at all. You pass." Then I turned towards Solar. "You're turn, buddy. Show us your stuff."
He stood there for a second, then he took off running while unfurling his wings. He kicked himself off the edge of the roof with his wings fully extended, and he shot up towards the sky. Suddenly, he stopped moving skyward. He just stayed in one place while flapping his wings slowly, and he was looking around like he was looking for something. I could see the confused expression on his face when I used my raptor vision.
Frowning, I yelled, "Something wrong, Solar?"
Solar flew down to the roof, landing as silently as Rose. "Is this place truly abandoned, or is there people living here, but you didn't know about them?"
I shook my head. "Nobody lives here. Why? Do you feel like there's people here with us?" Cautiously, my eyes darted around.
He frowned while looking around. "Hmm, that's strange. I've felt like people were here with us ever since we got here." He paused. "Don't worry about it. He says that everything's okay, and we're not going to get hurt."
My eyes fell on him. "Who is 'he', Solar?"
Solar looked over at me. "What? No one. It's just...it's nobody. Don't worry about it. Please. It's nobody."
I glanced over at Fang, who only shrugged in response. Sighing, I said slowly, "Okay. If you feel like there's anyone here with us, then tell me. Let's move on. We'll go to test two, which is fighting." I turned towards Rose. "Now, it's time to show us your fighting skills. Why don't you give Fang a try, Rose?"
