Peter couldn't believe how Lien was acting. His behavior was unlike what he remembered. It was driving him insane. With every blow, it felt like he was awakening a madman. Lien would scream for more and Peter almost wanted to stop fighting, if it wasn't for the fact that one of them had to leave alive. He wanted to be that man.
Lien was getting up again. Peter ran toward him and hit him straight in the face. He heard the sound of bone breaking, knowing that he hit his skull hard. Hopefully it was enough to stagger him for the finishing blow. Peter watched as he hit the ground, hard. He lay there motionless for a moment. Lien turned to his side and coughed up blood.
Peter slowly walked toward him, still in a fighting stance. Ready to pounce if need be. Lien rolled back onto his back and slowly laughed. Peter slowly let down his guard. He walked up to him and stared down at him. Lien's eyes were moving around, as if trying to find something to focus on. His mouth and neck were covered in blood.
He began to laugh again. "Brother, I have won. I won!"
Peter sat down next to him, shaking his head. "You didn't win Lien. You're about to die."
"Die?" He shook his head. "Dying for me is what I call being alive again. It's another new adventure."
Peter couldn't believe what he was saying. How could dying be another adventure? He was no longer going to enjoy the life the world had to offer anymore. He was no longer going to be a vampire and enjoy eternity anymore. What nonsense was he saying?
"Thank you Peter." Lien smiled at him.
"Thank you? For what?"
He clasped Peters hand."For finally making my wish come true."
At that moment, Lien breathed his last. A sudden sadness hit him. He felt tears slowly form in his eyes as he brought Lien closer to his chest. Peter didn't understand what he meant by making his wish come true. Whenever they talked about what they wanted most, he'd always laugh it off, saying he already had everything. What was the one secret he kept from him? The only way to find out what to look through his memories. He didn't have much time before they would disappear forever. He put his head on Liens and closed his eyes.
He searched and found a memory. It was after he left. Lien woke up and searched for him. To realize he was abandoned. He grew angry and vowed to make him pay for what he'd done. He couldn't believe Peter tried to steal his memories and left. After gaining his strength back, he went on a quest to search for him. No matter how long it took.
That wasn't the memory he wanted to see.
He went back to the point where Lien became a vampire. His parents had died while sleeping. They had breathed in the toxic fumes of a massive fire that had erupted. He was out on a stroll that night, wanting a bit of fresh air to cool his head. Coming back home, there was a crowd surrounding the property. They marked him a curse upon his family since he had survived. He tried to ask how it started but no one answered. People started thrown rocks and trash at him. Telling him to leave and never return. A couple of nights had passed as he walked into the forest. The fires haunting his every waking thought. He wailed into the darkness.
When he felt slightly better, he slowly walked back to what used to be his home. He hid behind the rubble, hoping no one would find him. While walking around in the shadows, he came upon his fathers hunting knife. It was burnt but was still very sharp. He fell to his knees and contemplated on ending his life. No one would care that he was gone. The only people who he loved were dead and all he wanted was to be there with them. To escape the miseries of this life.
A strange man emerged from the shadows, as if from thin air. He wore a long dark trench coat and black clothes. His hair was fiery red and his eyes glowed ember in the moonlight. Lien felt like a mouse had found its prey.
