Heart of the matter

Lien couldn't wait for Peter to come. His skin as crawling with excitement, knowing after all these years, he was finally going to see an old friend again. He stopped himself. How could he consider him a friend after what he'd done? He didn't know. He guessed a small port of him still considered him someone close. How strange.

He looked toward the girl and saw her strangely looking at him. He smiled and slowly walked up to her.

"Bored already?"

She scoffed. "No."

He sat across from her. Crossing his legs and his arms over his chest. "Want to talk?"

She looked away from him. "Sure, why not?"

"Okay, but first I have to introduce myself." He cleared his throat. "My name is Lien Saddle."

She barely looked at him. "Cleo Reed."

He continued to smile. Her stubbornness was amusing. "Can you guess how old I am, Cleo?"

She slowly glanced at him. "A thousand?"

He laughed. "Hey, come now. I'm not that old. I'm only over six hundred. That's still young for my age."

She shockingly looked at him. "A-and Peter? How old is he?"

Lien tapped a finger to his cheek. "Peter? I'd say he's older than me by two years. Nothing special really."

She continued to stare at him. He could tell she wasn't sure what to believe by the look in her eyes. Eventually, she looked away. He was amused at her show of strength. Too bad he was going to kill her eventually. It would have been very interesting to see what kind of vampire she'd be. He got up and went toward her. He put his hand on her mouth and watched the fear come back into her eyes.

He grinned. "I'm sorry Cleo but I need you to be out for a while. Until Peter comes that is."

He used his other hand and hit her lightly on her neck. She was out like a light.

"Sweet dreams Cleo."

Peter used the memories he stole from Missy to find out where Jason lived. He lived about ten minutes away, which was nice because he didn't want to waste anymore time. He went up to the door and knocked. After a couple of minutes, the door opened.

"May I help you?" Jason asked in a sleepy voice.

There was no time to lose. "Be ready in an hour Jason. When I call you, you better come."

He started descending the steps. Then he heard Jason follow.

"What? Who are you? What do you mean get ready in an hour? How will you call me? I don't even know who you are. Why should I trust you?"

He stopped and looked up at him. "It has to do with Cleo."

Jason was silent for a moment. "Is she okay?"

Peter's patience was wearing thin. "If you are not ready, she won't be."

He ran as fast as the darkness let him. If he knew Lien, he'd probably kill the girl soon. He needed to hurry up and prevent that from happening. Why was he so concerned? There should be no reason for him worrying about her, or even anyone else for that matter. This quiet town was doing something to him and he didn't like it.

He slowed down as he neared an old metal warehouse. It looked vacant from the outside. There was a sign on the metal fence to prevent anyone from entering. He closed his eyes and heard a heartbeat coming from inside. He wasn't sure if it was Cleo's but it sounded familiar to him. He opened his eyes and jumped over the fence.
