The last day of the weekend passed in a blur. More boxes arrived from our move, meaning unpacking, but on the bright side my car finally came as well. Meaning Angel won't be able to guilt me into a designated driver anymore because I can finally drive Grant and I to school.
As I sat on my bedroom floor, sorting t-shirts from the move, my mom came up to the open door and knocked.
"Hey honey" my mom said in an unusually sweet voice.
"Hi mom, what's up?" I questioned, slightly suspicious as to what she might be getting at.
"Oh nothing much, just wanted to check up on you" she deflected easily.
"Check up on me?" I questioned, receiving a nod, "well I guess I'm doing good?" I said uncertainty, confused as to what she's getting at. She's acting like I'm 9 again.
"Ok well, I was thinking" she began, I knew she had an angle here.
"Maybe you could take your brother out, if you guys wanna go get ice cream or to the sporting goods store, I'll pay for whatever you want" my mom spoke quickly.
"Uhh I'm kinda busy right now" I said gesturing to the small mountain of clothes I still had to fold.
"Sorry I phrased that wrong, take your brother out, it's not up for debate." she said before briskly turning and walking out, I guess no longer using the sweet mother angle to have me take Grant out.
I sighed before standing up. I checked my outfit in the mirror, not too bad, I just have a big white t-shirt on, with a large Barnie face on the front with some jean shorts under. I'm not going out to impress anyone, I'm probably supposed to just be convincing Grant to NOT sell drugs here. I grabbed my keys and some black flip flops and headed down the hall to Grant's room, knocking loudly in case the goblin king himself was sleeping.
"Wake up, mom is making us go out, I'll be in the car" I called through the door, not really feeling like pretending this was my idea.
After a few minutes, a tired looking Grant came out the front door and headed to my car.
"Let's make this fast I wanna go back to bed" Grant mumbled while ruffling his similarly ginger hair.
"What about some Dunkin?" I asked. I mean what else would you want at 10 am on a Sunday.
"Fine." Grant stated matter of factly.
We drove in silence for a few minutes with nothing but the GPS telling me where to turn, to go to a Dunkin Donuts I've yet to go to.
"So how's business?" I asked jokingly, only trying to lighten the mood.
"Oh just booming" Grant replied laughing slightly.
We spent the rest of the ride complaining about differences between Colorado and South Dakota, before quietly sipping on our coffees as we headed home. I suppose this could've gone worse. I watched Grant out of the corner of my eyes scarf down a chocolate frosted donut, managing to only make a slight mess in my car and I couldn't help but laugh.
"At least in a new state you're still the same old Grant" I laughed as I parked my car at home, observing the mess of sprinkles in my passenger seat.

I woke up bright and early to the sound of music on my phone. I groaned loudly, not quite ready to rid myself of the dream I was having. I'm not completely certain what it was about but I remember feeling truly happy. Must've been about Link I'm sure.
I got ready for the day as quickly as I could. I threw on a pair of black ripped jeans, not completely knowledgeable about the school dress code, but it's senior year why would I care. I threw on one of my dad's old long sleeve striped shirts, laced up a pair of black converse and rushed out of my room. Late, as usual. As I raced down the stairs so I'd have time to eat, I brushed past a half awake Grant on his way to the bathroom. I swear if he makes us late again, I'll kill him.
After I hurriedly ate a toaster strudel and finished up a cup of coffee, my mom made me head for the hall to call Grant down. As I was about to shout his name he came abling down the stairs in all of his frumpy glory.
"Let's go slowpoke" he joked to me, slipping his feet into a pair of vans on our way to the door.
As Grant buckled up, I began to back out of our driveway. Relying on our backup camera, I quickly pulled out. Well almost. Right as I was about to spin the tail of my car onto the street, I had to slam on the breaks suddenly. Standing right where my car was about to back into was the one and only Ross Lynch, pulling out a pair of earbuds in shock.
"Shit!" I muttered.
"Nice going bozo, take out the lady across the street with those loud dogs next." Grant taunted me.
"Oh my god oh my god, are you ok?" I called out my window, forgetting how mad I had been at him a day before.
"Alright I guess" Ross answered, flashing a charming smile my way.
"Oh good, sorry. I didn't see you" I mumbled, turning back to my wheel stricken with embarrassment.
"Dumbass- the least you could do is offer the guy a ride after you almost pancaked him" Grant says loud enough for Ross to hear him surely.
"I hate you," I whispered to Grant
"I'd actually love a ride, if you're offering" Ross said sheepishly."Get in" I said with an eye roll, hopefully conveying to him that I'm still very much upset.
The car ride went by in an intensely awkward silence. Grant, ever the hero, decided this was his moment to shine.
"So how do you know this guy, replace Link already?" Grant asked with a devilish smirk.
"She wishes," Ross cracked back, before retreating back into his shy demeanor, possibly seeing the fury on my face.
I drove the rest of the trip with my hands clenched tightly around the wheel. Breathing a frustrated sigh of relief as we pulled into the school parking lot. I needed to distance myself from Ross as much as possible before I make it so he can't have babies anymore.
Grant hopped out of the car, and as soon as I cut the gas I leaped out as well, tugging my backpack over my shoulder. Grant practically ran away from my car to avoid being seen with his lame older sister, and I tried to set off before a hand touching my elbow stopped me.
"Wait! Look I, Emmaline, I'm sorry." Ross said, frowning.
"For what, being a cocky asshat at the party, or a cocky imbecile in my car?" I questioned.
"Uhh, both. Look Emmie I swear I'm sorry I don't mean to act like that I just get so nervous around... I mean after shows" He trailed off, sounding genuinely sorry.
"Ross," I sighed, hating how easily my heart decided to forgive him, "you acted like an entitled brat, when all I am is nice to you. You embarrassed me." I finished sighing in defeat, knowing if he apologized even one more time I wouldn't be able to stop myself from forgiving him.
"I know Emmie, I'm really sorry, please can we pretend it never happened?
He practically begged, "I swear I'll never act like that again, I just don't want to lose... your friendship"."Fine, but no more chances" I sighed. We walked to English in almost silence, but not as awkward as before.
"By the way, why were you walking to school, don't you have siblings?" I asked.
