Ross's POV: His arrival at Marcie's party.

"Come on dude, take a shot you don't want to be the last one drunk" Ratliff cheered to me, trying to get us pumped for the show.

"I can't get drunk tonight guys... I'm trying to impress someone" I sighed out. I literally cannot get her out of my head.

"Ooooo Rossy boy is in loveeeeeeee" Rydel giggled, seemingly already tipsy.

"More like Rossy is a simp" Rocky laughed, drinking his own beer.

"Come on dude, I'm not a simp"

"Don't get your panties in a twist Ross, she won't be impressed then" Ryland, Riker's brother, joined in laughing.

"I say," Ratliff began, clearly enjoying pumping us up, "last one plastered, has to walk to school next week, all week" he said, winking in my direction.

"Ratliff are you serious?" I groaned over the chorus of agreement from my already slightly drunk band members and cousin.

"Fuck you Ratliff" I said turning away to tune my guitar.

I must have sat there tuning for a while for next thing I know a few girls had managed to already attach themselves to Rocky and Riker. It's normally like this, high school girls love a guy with an instrument. I looked up, seeing the door open and an absolutely gorgeous Emmaline walk in with Angel. I noticed as Angel spotted Riker and I could almost imagine how annoyingly high her voice must have gotten in excitement. I watched as Emmaline began to walk our way with Angel in tow. I quickly busied myself with my guitar again so she didn't see that I was staring. I watched out of the corner of my eye as Riker nudged the girl talking to him off his arm, and sat up a little straighter.

"Ah ladies, glad to see you could make it," I heard Rocky say, always having been comfortable in conversation. I listened as Angel replied, starstruck by Riker.

"You know we wouldn't miss it" Emmaline joked back. Making my chest feel tight, hoping maybe she wouldn't miss it because of me.

I heard Emmaline excuse herself and Angel and watched as she walked away, disappointed in myself for having missed my chance to talk to her. I stood there plucking at the strings on my guitar for a few more minutes before I saw out of the corner of my eye, Emmaline headed back this way, this time without Angel. I wondered how she managed to get away.

Riker, ever the one to try to impress our friends, had since been ridden of the girls from before and took this as a chance to spark conversation with Emmaline for a second time. I stayed quiet as usual.

"Lost Angel?" he asked.

"Something like that, hey guys!" Emmaline replied, her voice soft and sweet, making me want to smile at just the sound.

My band mates replied in choruses of hellos but I had been too focused on how nice hearing her voice was. Leaving me utterly unprepared, forced to just nod to that I won't fumble over my words like a moron and give myself away.

Emmaline wished us luck in a rush, seemingly suddenly eager to leave us . I watched as Emmaline turned and hurriedly walked away. Not missing the way her auburn hair swayed with every step she took. I couldn't help but notice how confident she seemed, only having faltered when she decided to turn and leave, seeming almost disappointed. I couldn't help but feel guilty. She's such a sweet girl, and she's so kind to me, all I want to do is sweep her off her feet, kiss her, love her, anything. But I heard her that first day in the lunchroom. She seemed disgusted when she practically shouted to her friend that she has a boyfriend back home. They must have been hinting at my liking her, they must have caught me staring. Anyway, even if she didn't have a boyfriend, she was so clearly creeped out at the thought of me liking her that I don't stand a chance.
