It took Lauren a little bit longer to wake up than usually, granted she usually didn't stay up till 3 in the morning most nights. She swallowed the drowsiness and forced her body out of bed. The black haired breezed through her morning routine, rushing to make up for the time she used to sleep for a few more minutes.

Arriving at school she trudged through the halls, her eyes betraying the awake and aware state she tried to be in. She soon got a rush of chills that woke her up immediately upon seeing her best friend standing near the hallway her face hidden behind her locker. Her trudge turned into a speed walk and she made her way over to Dinah.

"Hey D," Lauren said her heart spreading that same warmness that she gets when she see the beautiful girl in front of her. She seemed to have caught the girl lost in thought, watching her jump slightly. upon closer inspection her brows furrowed in worry upon seeing the far away, sad look on Dinah's face.  "You ok love?"

"Yeah, just tired from last night, you kept me up." Dinah looked up and shot her a smile that seemed all too forced. Lauren took that time to look at Dinah closer, taking note of her puffy eyes, and the dark bag that gathered just beneath the swirling brown orbs. The usual twinkle and excitement in her eyes gone, replaced by a dull, almost numb look..

"You kind of look like shit." Lauren attempted to make the Polynesian laugh, feeling her heart flutter at the success when she heard the small chuckle that escaped her lips.

"Thanks Captain Obvious." The younger girl chuckled out, her laugh slowly dying on her lips till she was back to how she was a few moments ago.  Lauren frowned again seeing her best friend with her head and shoulders down.

"Are you sure you're ok Dinah? I know that everything with last night..." The Cuban trailed off. She watched as Dinah froze for a second, contemplating her actions, before she sighed and opened her locker more widening the barrier between her and Lauren. Lauren huffed in slight frustration. She knew better than to push the girl, but she couldn't stand to see her best friend standing like this before her. Her body tired and appearing to weigh her down, as if she was holding the weight of the world on her shoulders. The smile that used to be so contagious and noticeable, was now a rarity. She hadn't seen her best friend be truly happy since the death of her father. Lauren knew that people grieved differently, she wasn't entirely sue how to help the blonde haired girl heal, yet she knew she couldn't just stand idle and watch her best friend try and take this on all by her self.

She crossed over to the other side of Dinah and dipped her head low, looking up into her eyes seeing her heart break a little seeing that tears were brimming the younger girl eyes.

"It's ok to miss him Dinah."

That seemed like the final push. Lauren watched slightly in fear as Dinah clutched her locker door tightly, her knuckles turning white, with her eyes clenched tight a few tears slipping through she suddenly latched herself onto Lauren, pulling her in tightly. Ducking her head to fit into Lauren's shoulder she released a sob. Lauren immediately wrapped her arms around the taller girl squeezing her. She released Dinah from her hug, and grabbed her hand. The younger girl, still wiping at her eyes, followed Lauren blindly. Lauren led them out of the main building and back out into the parking lot. She fumbled for her keys before unlocking her car and opening the passenger door letting Dinah sit down, not questioning her actions. Lauren closed the door rushing to the drivers side and getting in.

They sat there in silence for a moment, neither moving. Lauren took a deep breath, following her gut she started the car and began pulling out of the school's parking lot. She glanced over at Dinah who still hadn't said a word, tears still pricked at the girl's eyes but the worst of it seemed to be over. Lauren reached and intertwined their hands, squeezing slightly in reassurance. Dinah glanced down at their interlocked hands and a small smile made it way to her lips. Lauren couldn't help the slight increase in her heart race. The feeling of their hands fitting so perfectly in each other's filled Lauren with a sense of relaxation. She released a small breath she wasn't aware she was holding. Pulling her attention back to the road she continued driving.

She had never done this before. Lauren and Dinah have never skipped class, or a whole school day for that matter, in their lives. Both were labelled as stellar students. So Lauren couldn't help the exciting nervousness that ran through her body at the rebellious act she committed. She was more surprised that Dinah had let her drag her away, not hearing a single protest from the girl.
